About Me

Howdy everybody! My name is Robert. I like to think of myself as an outgoing, laid back, caring and funny individual. As far as I can tell though the consensus from others is that I am nice and easy to talk to :)

I was pretty heavy into all things nerdy when I was a teenager but since then have blossomed into a travel addicted adult into things like nature, and talking about the best way to get a cheap flight somewhere.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm looking to meet other travelers. I find the people who do couchsurfing, hitchhiking, backpacking, hiking all have a common personality trait that I am just drawn to. Call it being laid back, chill, adventurous, open minded it's this trait that I seek out in others and am really kinda shocked at how hard it is to come by in the "normal" world? That sounds kinda douche-y but I don't really know how else to phrase it right now.

What threw me into this culture was when I quit my job a year ago to backpack across Europe. That went amazingly, I met so many wonderful people and the kindness that strangers were willing to show me was a real eye opener. Right now I'm trying my best to not get sucked into the trap of sedentary living and am trying to keep engaged with people from that lifestyle. Currently me and my German girlfriend are driving across America so we're hoping meet the same sorts of opened minded travel oriented people we met in Europe here in the states!

Music, Movies, and Books

I've always been a huge history nerd. I love learning about different countries' histories' from the point of view of others. I am always down to listen to a story or tell a historical story.

I love Sci-fi, especially Sci-fi books Asimov's Foundation and Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game are some of my favorite series. I love Star Wars and anime where giant robots beat up on each other.

I'm also a fan of the outdoors. I grew up in NYC so I'm a city boy through and through but I love getting out on hikes whenever I can manage.

I hate politics but I'm addicted to keeping up with them, it's bad for my health but I do it anyway. If you're feeling up for a lively conversation about the state of the world or America I'm always down.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Befriended a stranger off the internet and then ended up traveling to Hawaii to visit her....when I was 16.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you Polish or English if you're interested! I'm trying to pick up random instruments and get the basics down so I'm interested in seeing others skills in action! I'm also interested in learning about people's world views and politics in a non-judgemental way. Living in NYC I am surrounded by a idealogical bubble and am trying to snap out of it that and see the world from other points of view, so please do t hold back opinions around me, I'm eager to hear them :)

I am currently road tripping across the USA with my girlfriend from Germany! We are living in our cozy little Honda CR-V so we're not desperate for accommodations but sleeping indoors or having access to a shower is always nice :)
