About Me
2025 Update: After some time without traveling, it’s finally time to hit the road again! I’m moving to Australia, but before arriving in Melbourne, I’m heading back to Europe to visit my friends in Germany and explore other countries.
If you’re reading my profile because you received my request to stay at your place, please, if there’s even the slightest possibility, consider it—I’ve already received a lot of rejections hahaha 😅🥲
Hey, Surfer!
My name is Robert, I’m Brazilian, and since I was a child, my dream was to learn English. In my teenage years, I started exploring everything related to global culture on the internet, learning about life in other countries, which only fueled my desire to explore the world. I got my first tattoo ten days after I turned 18—it’s a world map with the word “Wanderlust” written underneath.
When I finished high school, I had to decide what I wanted to do with my life, but all I really wanted was to move out of Brazil. I started studying languages and literature at university, and that’s when I began learning German. During my studies, I discovered several exchange opportunities, and in 2022, I finally left my country for the first time to have an international experience.
From 2022 to 2023, I lived in Germany as an au pair. I stayed with a German family in Berlin, and it was one of the best experiences of my life! Whenever I had a few days off, I took the opportunity to explore other countries in Europe, and that’s how I got connected with Couchsurfing. My host dad introduced me to this community, and that’s when I discovered the best way to travel. Even before I knew about Couchsurfing, I had always thought how amazing it would be if there were a way to connect travelers with locals in every place. Hahaha.
I’m a very outgoing, communicative, and funny person—I love laughing and making people laugh too. I really enjoy talking about all kinds of topics, as long as you’re interested and just as excited to talk as I am. But of course, I also know how to respect your space.
Not that sexuality is a topic, but I’m LGBT 🏳️🌈
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
The concept behind the Couchsurfing community had existed in my mind long before I even knew this platform existed. When I first created my profile here, I wasn’t sure what to write in this section. But after many experiences with other people in this community, I realized that Couchsurfing is much more than just a place to sleep and leave your stuff. It’s a way to connect two people who are completely different in many ways—language, culture, customs. As I once read in someone’s profile: “Arriving as a stranger and leaving as a friend.”
Unusual experiences that happened thanks to Couchsurfing:
• My very first experience in this community was when I traveled to Copenhagen and stayed at Joanna’s place (she no longer uses Couchsurfing and deleted her profile, which is why her recommendation is no longer visible). We became best friends—she visited me in Germany twice, and when I went back to Brazil, she also came to visit me there.
• When Joanna was in Brazil, we traveled to Rio de Janeiro. I opened the Couchsurfing Hangouts feature there and found Erich, who had hosted me in Vienna. It was an incredible coincidence! So we decided to go on a hike in a favela in Rio, and it was an amazing experience.
• Marcus was my host in Dresden, and he travels the world for work. In 2024, he had a trip planned to São Paulo, where I lived, so he messaged me and ended up surfing on my couch too. This was the most rewarding Couchsurfing experience I’ve had because when I stayed with him in Dresden, he took me out with his girlfriend and some friends, and we even went clubbing—it was an unforgettable night. So when he came to São Paulo, I made sure to give him an equally unforgettable experience as my guest.
• My host in Prague was Veronika. She was also studying languages and literature, just like me, and was learning Portuguese as a foreign language. Coincidentally, she was applying for an exchange program at the university I was studying at in Brazil. That same year, she moved to Brazil, and we ended up studying in the same building! It was amazing. While she was in Brazil, we also traveled together to Rio de Janeiro.
All these experiences make me even more excited for my next trip and the next amazing person with a great story who will become a best friend.

Music, Movies, and Books
In Brazil we have many different styles of music, like Samba, Pagode, Funk, National Pop, Sertanejo, Brega and I love them all, I am also learning to like German music and I love international pop
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
After a lifetime of being overweight, in 2024, I decided to change my habits and lifestyle to lose weight. From January to December 2024, I managed to lose 45 kg through dieting and working out.
This was one of the greatest achievements of my life, proving to myself that I am capable of anything if I have enough focus and determination.
If you compare my travel photos from my first time in Europe to my current ones, it’s basically two different Roberts—and I’m really proud of myself for that.
