About Me

I am:
Uncomfortably tall (resulting in back pain and clumsiness)
Interesting (if you like planes, Murakami or ugly buildings)
Awkward (in more ways than one)
Talkative (or silent - depends on the situation)

I sometimes have:
Bushy/Ultra short reddish hair (and relatively incomplete facial hair)
A sense of humour (after staying awake more than 24 hours I'm hilarious)
A job
Charisma (nah only joking)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am a scummy freeloader who hates human interaction and just wants to treat your house like a hotel and steal all your fancy food. Just a warning ;)

JK, obv.
I'm on CS for probably the same reason everyone else is. I like meeting new people, I like traveling to new places and gaining an insight into the darkest corners of actual citizens lives there and I like opening my house to all and sundry to experience a part of my life.

Yes, I'm sure there are people using CS for nefarious reasons but I have yet to come across a true example. My experiences hosting and being hosted have been life affirming and genuine without fail, and I have the utmost faith in humanity as a result.

Interests

Live music, Japanese food, Soviet architecture, Battleships, Anime

I like aimlessly meandering around the various Metropolises of the world. Favourites include Tokyo, Hanoi, Busan, Jogja and Moscow.

I also like living in the countryside. There's a sweet spot around 20-30 minutes outside of major cities where the green overtakes the grey. This is the zone I currently occupy and the place I feel most at home.

When it comes to traveling you have to mix it up though. I can do 2-3 days in a city like Jakarta or Guangzhou, but any longer might drive me insane; the medium size cities I can tolerate for longer. Waterfalls, mountains, volcanoes, beaches, jungle, valleys, moors and farms are preferable.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once met and had a very interesting conversation (about driving trucks and the age of consent) with the legendary Modest Mouse front-man Isaac Brock. The experience was both humbling and sincere.

I co-drove a 110cc motorcycle around 50% of Vietnam (3500km) enduring break-downs on mountains, almost drowning on a paradise beach, destroying my liver with fishermen on a tiny island and zipping past so many incredible vistas it now takes a lot to impress me.

What I Can Share with Hosts

If you host me I'm sure I can find a way to return the favour if you are ever in my homeland of Scotland or one of my current part-time homes, Hanoi or Yogyakarta/Solo.

If you want to share cooking you are very welcome to use the kitchen and we can go market shopping together.
I don't speak Javanese language very well, so if YOU can share that with ME you would be a high priority guest ;)

But of course the most important things I can share are space, time and conversation (and maybe a motorbike but it depends if I need it!!)
