About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Learn to live my life in a better way, and share this with others

ABOUT ME

I am always interested in how's life in a different place then where I am living. Different environments makes different people that reacts differently to all kinds of issues life's offering us. I'm always curious about how I would have been if I'd made different choices. Travelling and dividing experiences are the best way to find out about the enormous variety this world is offering us.
Until the birth of my son in 2001 I travelled quite a bit, but after I changed behaviour. For years most of my travelling was going between Italy and Holland, when I was living in Italy, and after moving back to Holland the other way around. But last year we decided to start over again to do some more serious travelling, also because we find it's time my son starts to see something more of the world. Sometimes we will be travelling the three of us, but sometimes we move just me or my wife together with my son.

That was for the travelling, now something about myself. Ouch, that's difficult; I'm an easygoing person, not very demanding, especially when I'm travelling. I slept everywere, during my trips, at stations, in the fields, with or without a tent, on the floor...and also with food I'm very easy. I think I'm a pleasant person, at least that's what they say about me, so that should be true - always believe other people if they say something pleasant...;)

I don't like big parties, but a nice conversation with a good beer is always fine by me. I do like nature, hiking or just daydreaming under a big tree. I can dream about my backpack, that's already too long in the attic.
When I am in the right mood, I like to do some meditation, or just some deep breathing. It helps to relax and makes you feel better, you know? I love animals, all kinds (although some insects...), I like being with them, because lots of time they have much more to say than a lot of humans!

PHILOSOPHY

I think that too many people live their lives just for themselves, or their nearest loved ones, and that we are not going anywhere in this way. If we would work a little more together, think a bit more about the common interest instead of our own, we all would be better off. That's why learning and sharing is so important, because every time the next generation should start on a little higher level than the last one. Measuring in 50-100 generations, there could come out something beautiful, don't you think? I do...

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Sharing is enrichment. Learning is pening up one's mind.. I like to share with others. To learn from others. I Will bring my experiences andere he little knowledge I have gained of life, jou bring yours. It will give something to both.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Long before I found out about couchsurfing, I spent a few nights with a Japanese guy in Sarawak - Borneo. He gave me he ride, a bed and also some food. But most of all he gave me an inside view of his life, that was so completely different from mine at that time. These experiences open up your mind, as long as you're ready for it.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like to read a lot, but unfortunately I have too little time. When I'm reading it's normally Science fiction (Arthur Clarke, Octavia Butler, Robert Sawyer).
Movies I like almost all types, other than horror, that I can't stand. Music is very important, all kinds of music, but mostly: New age, Classical, World music, some Rock and Pop 80's. Some names? Enya, Alanis Morissette, Queen, Deep Forest, Massive Attack, Sacret Spirit, Adiemus, Abba, U2, Leonard Cohen, Paul Simon, and many more. As you can see, a coloured bunch!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Some great hiking in Alaska, Canada and Borneo, wandering around for days almost without encountering anyone. Sleeping a night in the archeological site of Delphi. Sitting on a mountain or in a forest, watching the sunset or doing some meditation. Making a real contact with someone else. Sharing something important with the ones I love. Seeing my son walk his first steps, speaks his first words, help him to find his way in this world. Preparing a dinner for some cs-guests and to find ourselves with 11 persons from 6 different nations around the table, with most persons never met before...that's so special!

Teach, Learn, Share

I don't have much to offer for teaching, just my own experiences, that I can share with you. A good conversation can be very pleasant, and can give a lot. Sometimes I like to cook, it gives me a lot of tranquillity. What I would like to learn...well that's a lot. First of all I would like to learn about living, how other persons live their lives, how they feel about it. If someone would like to share some natural activity with me (hiking, canoeing, for instance), teach me about animals. And then I would like to learn other languages, because I find it horrible not being able to express myself.
