About Me

I'm a very curious person who loves meeting new people, seeing new places, and sharing parts of the world that I've come to know and enjoy. I'm into writing, exploring, and general thought-creating, as well as being outdoors.

What makes me smile? Great people, cool places, good parties, and spot-on conversation. (Food is also pretty nice).

My parents are both artists, and their relaxed outlook on... most things... has largely shaped how I interact with the world. I'm also ver much into the arts, and have been traveling around since I was a little squirt. I continue to love bouncing about and collecting stories that come up along the way.

So, what am I into? I like hanging out with people in all kinds of settings - city, beach, forest, bar, stratosphere, you name it! I also like walking, talking, dancing, and sport-ing. AHHH, and COFFEE!

I’m an easy traveler; big smile, small bags, can do attitude, and very clean.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I think this is a great way to get to know new places and the people that live in them.

It's a nice to get of the standard tourist path, and surfing is great way to do so. Meeting new people in new places has always been one of my favorite parts of traveling -- I like letting chance take the lead when I travel.

Interests

My favorite things are people and places. I've always loved seeing new scenery, and getting to know the people that call it home. I'm an active fellow who loves hiking, beach-being, and most outdoor things. I go out often, and like dancing to most kinds of music.

By way of contrast, I am also very much into reading and writing. I studied Ancient Greek thought, Tibetan Buddhism, and Italian Philosophy of education.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like a WIDE variety of music. I DJ'd house and techno for five years, but also like Latin music, some rap/ hip hop, classic rock, jazz, blues, and classical. I don't really get down with opera, but look to be converted.

As to movies, I like thrillers and sci-fi, older films, and the occasion comedy (not romantic). My favorite director is Wes Anderson. I also get pretty into the occasional TV series. Most recently, I was very much into True Detectives, but I also very much enjoyed Northern Exposure.

I'm hesitant to start a booklist for fear of locking myself down into any particular camp. As to categories, I get very much into Ancient Greece (Plato and Aristotle), a variety of traditions within the Buddhist cannon, and, recently, philosophy of aesthetics and hermeneutics. I go through periodic sprits of reading Kierkegaard and the French existentialists, and have a love-hate relationship with formal logic and contemporary hermeneutics.

On the fiction front, I've been reading through the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (with adoration), and recently finished rereading Momo - a childhood favorite.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Well, I'm in Thailand for a pretty strange set of circumstances. I was in China, things didn't seem right, so I bought a oneway ticket, and here I am now.

I like learning to adapt to new circumstances, and am full of stories that start with: "I was ready to do something different" and end with "so I got up and did it."

Teach, Learn, Share

More than teaching, I enjoy thinking through things with other people. Have something you've been puzzling over? Chances are I don't have an answer for you, but I may be able to add some questions to your search!

As to concrete things, I can teach you how to make some delicious Spanish Gazpacho (if you have a blender), how to do a headstand (if you've got the motivation), and how to say whatever you want in Spanish.

Above all, I'm curious. If you have something your itching to teach, I'm all eyes and ears.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Well, what are you looking for? Again, I like conversation, being outside, going out, reading and writing. If you like doing those things, then chances are we'll have fun doing any or all of them together.

Also, if you're ever in a bind for words, I can help with editing a document or two (provided I have ample time to do so).
