About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Carving out a new life in retirement in Singapore and Indonesia.

ABOUT ME

Love languages and math, love mountains more than seasides, love vegetarian food with a glass of red wine.
Active, athletic (but currently out of shape), intellectual, sometimes sarcastic, curious, adventurous, independent, well-traveled.

PHILOSOPHY

minimalist, vegetarian, existentialist

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I offer a bed to intrepid travelers.
But currently I don't have a bed to offer.
Surfed and hosted a number of times and had a great experience each and every time.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Hosting and surfing and each time was really amazing. I just love how generous and nice people are. It (partially) restores my faith in humanity. Ha. Each time I surfed the experience was so different from the next and that's another great feature of couchsurfing. You don't get that staying at the Holiday Inn!

Interests

Rock climbing, ice climbing, mountain climbing for 35 years.
I do calculus problems for fun, so I've got that going for me.
Travel obviously, and languages.

Music, Movies, and Books

Rock & Roll
Workingman's Death, Whale Rider, Amelie, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Rushmore, Lost in Translation, Jesus Christ Superstar, Moulin Rouge!, A Christmas Story, Juno.
A Mathematician's Lament
The Structure of the Scientific Revolution, Thomas Kuhn
Pillars of the Earth, Ken Follett

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hiked for 50 days in the Everest and Annapurna regions in Nepal in the Fall of 2009.

Bivyed hanging off the Biancograt (Switzerland) in a lightening and snow storm.

Raised two teenage daughters on my own.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to hear the real-life stories of the people I meet.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Stories of travel and climbing. Commiserate with single moms and dads about raising children as a single parent. And fun math problems. That's what I can share.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Bangladesh, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cambodia, Canada, China, Costa Rica, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Laos, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Mexico, Montenegro, Myanmar, Nepal, Netherlands, Norway, Philippines, Portugal, Serbia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States, Vatican City State, Viet Nam

Countries I’ve Lived In

Indonesia, Singapore, Switzerland, United States
