About Me
CURRENT MISSION
What makes the Hottentot so hot? What puts the "ape" in apricot? Courage!
ABOUT ME
I am married with nearly-grown kids and ready for more freedom. I sing, play and write music (I'm not saying I do it *well*), and being on the road seems to help with that.
PHILOSOPHY
"Nothing is truly small"
-Victor Hugo
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I'm new here. :)
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
None, not since I was a young man and would sleep anywhere.
Interests
Music, places, poetry, roads (the lonelier and more desolate the better, in some moods anyway). Trying to figure out what it means to be an atheist and nevertheless have a place for the spiritual in me. I like figuring out a place--what it's like, how it came to be, what kind of people belong there.

Music, Movies, and Books
I'm really music-centric. Love great songwriters (Rau Davies, Richard Thompson, Laura Nyro, Gene Clark, Grant McLennan, Arthur Lee...) and weird and psychedelic sounds (Can, Neu!, My Bloody Valentine, the Stooges, Henry Cow...). I like experimental and SF-y fiction, poetry, documentary films, westerns, Hitchcock... it's really not possible to answer this question.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Well, I had kids. That's pretty much the ultimate, though lots of people have done it.
OK, let's see, I did field work in Kenya on a language that's spoken there (Dholuo). I was only there for four months but it was a life-changing event. Otherwise I've lived a pretty tame life--I'm an academic, and most of my voyaging has been the interior kind.
Teach, Learn, Share
I know a lot about about language and languages.
