About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To use friendliness, kindness, ambition, and fun to make each day better than the last
ABOUT ME
I am an American-Swede, having grown up in Boston, USA and becoming a citizen in Sweden as well. I think I try to take the best of both worlds and cultures and blend them into one.
About me...well most people would say that I am a pretty nice guy. I am a firm believer in the Golden Rule (it gets you 95% of the way in life) and I have a philosophy of "paying it forward" as much as I can.
I have had the privilege to see much of the world, most of it due to work. But I also make it a point to visit 1-3 new countries every year. I love inter-cultural exchanges and experiences!
Right now I have a full-time job which is very demanding. So time is limited, but I love life and love learning so I have no complaints. I keep the view that whilst I might not have everything I want (that super yacht is still a bit out of reach), I have everything in life that I need (family, friends, a place to live, and food to eat). Everything else is just an additional blessing and a bonus :)
PHILOSOPHY
My philosophy is simple...try to make each day better than the last. You can do that by following the Golden Rule, remember that being nice usually costs you nothing, and then remembering to refer to the first two things in the event of any questions :-)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
As of July 2013 I am a CS newbie, so I haven't yet figured out how to best participate. But I am looking for the essential experience...to travel and to host and to meet new people.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
My couch-surfing experience is limited. I heard about this site through a friend who offers his couch to people and I decided that I would give this a try and see how it goes.
Personally, I couchsurf quite a bit by staying with friends I know. I actually really prefer it over hotels (my second favourite option are things like AirBnB) as you get a local taste of the city and I have gotten to meet some awesome people.
So I am open to the experience and what it has to offer.
Interests
My interests range from cooking to politics to music to movies to just being social. It would take longer than you want to read to describe them all, but they are likely the same or similar to your interests :)
- dining
- cooking
- yachting
- politics
- movies
- traveling
- music
Music, Movies, and Books
I am Trekkie (I will get that out there right in front), but I like many other movies as well. I get around to seeing movies 'eventually' when time permits. In terms of TV, everything from Will & Grace to HIMYM to Big Bang Theory, and many of the "classics" like Fraiser, etc. My taste in books range all over the map as well as does my music tastes.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I have several!
- Went up the Great Wall in China
- Seen the Taj Mahal
- Climbed up to the peak of Mount Kilimanjaro
- Visited inside the pyramids (when it was still possible to do so)
And a bunch of other things. Each experience has taught me something, so it's not right just to pick one.
Teach, Learn, Share
For me, it's all about the discussion and exchange. That's how you teach and you learn.
