Overview
About Me
I'm relaxed, laid back, and generally pretty quiet. But I love having deep conversations about all sorts of topics.
I tend to find a certain level of amusement in the absurd.
I'm considerate of how my actions impact the lives of others. I understand the concept of hostipitality:

Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I've heard a lot of good things about couchsurfing from friends and other travellers. Like a lot of people (and everyone on this forum) I love to travel. I don't particularly like hotels because they're impersonal. Bed and breakfasts, I find, are like hotels with a touch more personality. I like hostels but they confine you to meeting other travellers. That's great, of course, but when I travel I think it's nice to experience the place itself, in a more authentic way. Couchsurfing, I hope, offers that opportunity.
Interests
Different kinds of folk music, fiction, film, hiking and basically anything having to do with nature - well, except catastrophic, life-altering natural disasters. I also love visiting cities (which, if we're honest, are also part of nature, right? Discuss). I recently started sailing and I think I'll pursue that for the rest of my life.

Music, Movies, and Books
I enjoy a lot of music. Recently I've been listening to all sorts of folk music.
Books by Dostoevsky, Jonathan Franzen, David Foster Wallace, Don Delillo, and J.M. Coetzee.
Films by Ashgar Farhadi, Michael Haneke, Béla Tarr, Sarah Polly and documentaries by Werner Herzog and Joshua Oppenheimer.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
In Colombia I climbed a 5000 m mountain with a guy I met the day before. He spoke a few words of English, and I a few of Spanish. When I met up with him at 3:00 am to start our approach, he was obviously pretty drunk from the night (a few hours) before. I had my second thoughts but I went ahead with the plan. I can tell you more about it if we meet....
Teach, Learn, Share
I can talk with you about social and political theory. My own research has to do with how the human relationship to nature has changed over the past 200 years or so, through the rise of science, industrialism, and transformed social relations under capitalism.
I can teach guitar and share music with those who already play or sing.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I'm not a good cook, I admit, but I can offer to make some simple dishes like pasta. If you're a good cook and like to do so, I can be a great help in the kitchen.
I'd love to share some interesting conversations.
