About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To travel and learn

ABOUT ME

I guess if I were to sum myself up in a few words, I'd say I am sporting and am fond of adventure. Having grown up in Singapore, I haven't really had the chance to experience the world yet, and there are so many new places waiting to be discovered! Now that I am studying in London, I feel that it is a great opportunity for me to experience new cultures, try out new cuisines, and especially meet new people.

PHILOSOPHY

As Pink Floyd said - "the memories of a man in his old age are the deeds of a man in his prime". My philosophy in life has always been to seize the day, and not squander the opportunities that life gives me. After all, we'll never be young forever and have energy to do all this.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Unfortunately, as I am living in college residences right now, I am unable to act as a host; college students are poor and live in squalid conditions, trust me. That might change in the future, so for now I am planning to be surfing.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am pretty new to this website, so I can't say I've had much experience at all.

However, I have "surfed" at a friend's place before in Germany; we met in our college residence and struck it off from there. I spent a total of 7 days in his house and experienced a German lifestyle for a week - from racing down the autobahn to eating massive sausages, and of course the beers! We even had a barbecue in winter - that was definitely an experience!

Interests

Sports - I've played rugby since 2000, so that's 9 years and counting now! My favourite national team is probably the All Blacks, because they're cool to support and I loved my time in New Zealand when I went on a rugby trip. Other passions include football - avid Manchester United fan, sadly I can't play very well! I play generally any racquet sport like tennis, squash, badminton, and of course being Asian I must be adept at table tennis!

Food - I love eating food, and this is one of the main draws of couchsurfing. Having tasted so many 'fusion' style dishes, I've found that it's hard to find a restaurant that gives a true taste of the country. I find that travelling opens up the opportunity to taste the 'real' local cuisine!

I love hanging out in bars and pubs, be it for a nice cocktail or a manly pint. Cafes are nice to chill out in as well, and I love my coffee. I don't love tea that much, but give it time and I'm sure the English will rub off onto me!

I love exploring cities on foot as there's just so much more to see when you're walking around. Walking past quaint little shops and viewing what they have to offer is definitely a pleasing part of travelling.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music - I pretty much listen to anything. Except rap. From Gregorian masters of chant, trance, hip-hop, pop, to musicals, I pretty much listen to them all.

Movies - I love watching a film for not just a solid storyline, but cinematography and the 'overall film-going experience'. Which is why I thought inglorious basterds should have won the Oscars for best script writing at least, if not best direction. As you can see I'm quite a big Tarantino fan.

Books - I love reading classics, but never managed to sit through Anna Karenina. Although I did accomplish Atlas Shrugged, but that was probably due to me having an amazingly boring job during my military service..

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've climbed up to the "I" on Iamsterdam, just outside the Van Gogh museum. If that's not amazing I don't know what is.

Teach, Learn, Share

I do know how to shower. And eat lunches/dinners.
