I've always had great experience being both a host and a surfer. I believe that couchsurfung is more then just a cheap way to travel, it's an entire way to travel itself, and you can get much more out of it. It's because you get to communicate with people, not only see the sights, cities and nature, and apart from souvenirs and pictures, you bring home stories of people you meet.
