About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Experience adventure! It doesn't have to be epic, just fun!

ABOUT ME

I'm a girl-next-door type: I've got some quirks but nothing too extreme. My favorite things to do are smile until my face hurts, laugh, and learn new things. I'm 22 years old and I have a bachelor's degree in Psychology. I plan to attend graduate school. I like animals and books. I don't have a huge circle of friends, but I treasure the ones I have. I can be shy, but I usually get over it. I love eating baked goods and pastries. I have one younger sister. My family has gone camping ever since I was a few weeks old. I like roller coasters. I get cold easily (fleece blankets are amazing!). I enjoy napping at the beach. I have brown hair, brown eyes, and freckles. I startle easily. My favorite color is grey.

PHILOSOPHY

"Ready, Go!" Not only do those words start a race, they can start all sorts of adventures. I haven't always been good about taking them to heart, but I'm growing all the time. You don't have to stop doing things when you're content - to can always have another adventure and let it add to your happiness. Whether it's trying a new food or visiting somewhere, I think there should be planning and thought, but eventually you just have to do it! A few things might go wrong, but you learn for next time.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm a relatively new CouchSurfer, but I've been very pleased so far! I haven't hosted yet (I live rather far from town), but I'm sure it will happen some day! I'm also spreading the idea to like-minded friends of mine :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've met for dinner once and Surfed (5 days) once - so far! It's been an absolutely wonderful experience and I can't wait to host and surf more!

Interests

I'm practically obligated to start with the fact that I loved being a student. And now I love my job - making someone else's research awesome! Maybe that's a dorky thing to say, but it's very true! Other than that, I'm a big fan of horseback riding and distance running. I've ridden (mainly English style, Hunter/Jumper) since I was about 10. I also started playing (horse) polo and have been doing it for 4 years now - let me tell you, it's SO much fun! I ran cross-country and distance track events (800m, 1 mile1500m, 2 mile/3200m) all through high school. I haven't competed in awhile, but I still like to get out and run!

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: Hardly anyone seems to have heard of them, but I love the Kushiel's Legacy series by Jacqueline Carey. They're not books for everyone, but they're very powerful and involved - a whole different world is in those pages. As for non-fiction, I like Jared Diamond's books quite a bit. He doesn't make science/academic topics boring to read about, but covers ideas in an engaging, enjoyable style. They're great reading and you actually learn things!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I know many people do it every year, but it was a big deal for me to study abroad for a year. I've learned a lot and experienced so much!

Teach, Learn, Share

One of my most useful skills is editing papers for the little stuff. You know what you meant to say and that's what you see on the page. When I read, I notice when there's accidentally two spaces between words. However, this is a rather boring skill...
Hmm... I'm a pretty good baker and I'm increasing my cooking skills! It's a good hobby to have - eat well and sometimes I even impress myself!
