About Me

Born in the GDR i grew up in a mid sized city with a huge soviet garrison. Although there was this strong influence of the socialist system to our life I had a sheltered childhood and my parents managed to take my brother and me to as many places we were allowed to and kept a lot of friendships to eastern Europe. When i was 10 years old the wall came down . The country i was taught to live in stopped existing. With the age of 10 it wasn't that hard to get touched to the new meaning of society. Luckily some of our parents friends took us to a trip through 9 countries of western Europe and we got a glimpse of the diversity of people living on this planet. At this time I understood that the friendship of nations is not a political necessity for the sake of mankind as we were told in the communist education but a personal gain to understand that foreign people are not just them. Now its up to me to take my son around to turn foreign places to common places and make friends out of foreigners.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Show Europe to my son. Get to know people I wouldn't meet back home. Make friends.

I don't like to be a tourist being captured in a managed journey kept in hotels dragged to sights. I'm interested how life is in the different places, the attitudes, interests and desires of the people. With my first CS backed trip i realized its perfect for me to go by train visiting people I never knew before.

Music, Movies, and Books

For work i have to read a lot of technical literature. Furthermore I am captured in the echo chambers of on-line media. Thats why i refused to keep on reading much in private but the National Geographic (standing order).

I am a huge fan of audiovisual media, HiFi and home cinema but the mass produced content is that frustrating that I prefer to be out in the nature rather then hanging on couch in front of the screen.

I try to consume as less mainstream and serials as possible but if I do i stick to ..
.. Movies: action, scifi, documentaries
.. Music: indie, industrial, punk, singer-songwriter (out of some hundred LPs not easy to point out few favourites)
