ABOUT ME

I am a fun loving and light hearted person who just happens to love people, in all their quirkiness. I work with kids who have high levels of aggression and teach them coping skills so they can become productive members of society. My favorite students are non verbal with autism. I get a charge out of teaching them how to communicate and why communications is so important.

PHILOSOPHY

I am a live life like you mean it person. We all have choices, you can be a bystander or a participant in your life. Who needs TV when you live in reality. Get out and live.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've been a couch surfer for years, I just did to know it had a name or even a website. I love being on the road and any opportunity to meet new people, exchange ideas and build short term and life long relationships is just for me.

Interests

In my free time I am typically on the road and off to a new adventure... Additionally, I coach a dragonboat team of adults with cognitive disabilities. We have traveled together as a team and have even medaled. I've hosted foreign exchange students from 5 different countries over the last decade and am still I touch with most of my kiddo's. I also am an advocate for the foster care system and believe in the reunification of the family, as long as the parents are doing their part to change their own behaviors.

Music, Movies, and Books

I am a closet car movie girl, if its got fast cars I'm going to see it. I grew up on music. My grandparents loved it, my parents loved it and I love it. I have about a century worth of music in my head. I'll listen to anything, anytime especially if its a live performance. My favorite though... Is Rock. As for books, I read about 50 a year. I'm currently reading Manuscripts found in Accra.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have two:
Personal - I completed a 5k mud run after losing 50 pounds.
Professional - I taught a non-verbal student to say, "I love you, mom" with his communication device.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach - alternative communication techniques when using words is not possible.
Learn - how to be the best version of myself by experiencing people, places and ideas beyond my known borders.
Share - my passion for dragonboating, hiking and special needs people.
