About us...

After living in the UK all of our lives, we decided to do a round-the-world trip together. After seeing Canada for all of a few days, we knew it's where we wanted to be and moved here, settling in Ottawa as it was one of our favourite places.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I (Rory) originally joined couchsurfing while travelling the USA, in order to meet the real people of the cities and towns I visited, rather than just following the tourist trail.

Emma then joined me on another trip and discovered the world of couchsurfing for herself (I think she might love it more than I do now)!

We want to be able to give back to the community, through hosting and helping our hosts with things while we stay. Sometimes helping a host with something in their daily life can be a great window into another world!

Interests

Rory:

Skateboarding is my main game, I have been doing it for 13 years now and still gives me more fun than the last time each time I do it. I am also highly interested in all aspects of design as this is my main career for the moment. I have an active side interest in all things science, with an extra love for astronomy, cosmology and physics.

Emma:

At a polar opposite for my love of science Emma is deeply involved in the world of Philosophy which can spark some brilliant debates and conversations in the household! She is also a big skier and loves going for long adventures and hikes. Emma also has a passion for all things tea and has been studying the art of Chinese tea ceremony for a few years now - she would be more than happy to make you a cup or two!

Music, Movies, and Books

Of course the best film ever made would have to be the Shawshank Redemption, but following this would be The Mist, Nightcrawler, Cast Away, LOTR, Back to The Future, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, Star Wars, James Bond, The Lobster etc.. the list could go on for pages!

As for books for me its anything Stephen King. Emma loves continental philosophy, mainly the Frankfurt School and other contemporary critical thinkers such as Agamben.

Im an old school hip hop fan and Emma is a Mac Demarco, Tame Impala kind of girl. The only music we agree on is Kendrick and Bob Dylan.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

We took a kayaking trip around the islands of Howe Sound in BC, Canada and camped on an island on Rory's birthday. Watching the sunrise from a tent on your own private beach is a pretty spectacular start to the day!

Teach, Learn, Share

People with information I do not currently know, I like to learn like a sponge and am always happy to take in new things. I like to tell people about the things I do, especially about skateboarding, technology and anything they do not know that I can share.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Rory is the chef of the household and will be more than happy to cook you up a treat. Emma can provide tea and insightful philosophical and political conversations. Both of us would be so grateful to come and stay with you, we would be more than happy to do chores and tasks.
