About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Learn, share, experience

ABOUT ME

I spend my 9 - 5 working for Habitat for Humanity, an international NGO, with some wonderfully interesting people. In the evenings, I like to meet friends, cook, talk, chat, discuss, read, study a little Slovak & French, watch films, plan what next to do to and where next to go to expand my horizons. I enjoy music a lot, and I play the violin twice a week here in Bratislava.I tend to have the feeling that there is always more to see, do and experience and I keep busy and genuinely really enjoy meeting people. The quote "variety is the spice of life" is one I can identify with quite strongly and I think that is probably what attracts me to CS! I've been told I'm a pretty friendly person and I'll probably enjoy meeting you so if you're nearby, I'll be happy to hear from you.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I attend CS events here in Bratislava and at the weekend if I am here, I'll be happy to host. I do travel quite a bit though and share an apartment so will need to show your profile to my flatmates for their approval ;-)

If you want someone to take you around Bratislava, again if time allows then I'm happy to act as tour guide/coffee drinking compatriot. 'Coffee' is actually an all encapsulating term for tea, hot chocolate, beer, food. Tell me what you like, and we'll find it!

Interests

Politics, debating, playing the violin, listening to music, watching films, watching dancing, going dancing (for fun!) cooking, comedy, sport (especially tennis) reading, talking, walking, speaking French, more recently speaking Slovak. What's not to be interested in? The list could go on...

Music, Movies, and Books

I have a healthy appetite for new music, books and films and like to have time to reflect on what I see, hear and learn from them too. Always trying to update my film knowledge, which is a little sparse, and currently I'm spending some time watching some 'classic' films that I haven't yet seen. Enjoy live music a lot and I've discovered a cafe in Bratislava where a very talented pianist goes and plays on Friday and Saturday - if you come, then we can go ;-)

I love to read, there are many books on my list that I would like to curl up with soon. Some good recent ones are Burying The Typewriter, World Without End (I am a Ken Follett fan) and The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy, which I loved.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Met Nelson Mandela, what a guy.

Teach, Learn, Share

Sites like couchsurfing have been a partial inspiration for a little project I started with a friend http://talkin.eu/?src=csfA few people have asked me about it having seen it as my listed website so I'll share the idea here. Arriving in Bratislava really opened my eyes to the amount of amazingly talented and multi lingual people in Europe (it's not so common in England). The difficulty seems to be practicing your second, third language - rather than learning it. So, to facilitate communication between language learners and native speakers a friend an I set up this website to encourage conversation and cultural exchange between these people. I'm really happy to say that people actually use the site, and I'd love to dedicate more time do it but my friend and I both work, and so this project is something we can only do in our spare time. In the near future however we are looking to do a lot more and make it more widely accesible. As for learning in general, I am interested in new knowledge, or old knowledge from a new angle. Let's get chatting, and we'll see what we can learn and share :-)
