About Me

Hey, I'm Rosie, a confident 18(almost 19!!)year old with an infectious sunny disposition, and a love for travel!
I currently reside (10mins out of Chester) with my family; mum, dad, younger brother and dog, but I am moving to Leeds in September to study BSc Geography for university, and that will be the main place I can host from!
I get an absolute kick from experiencing new things and meeting new people, and I think this may be why I love travelling so much. I am currently on a solo 8month trip around Asia; hitting up Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Indonesia and India, and so far, it has been AMAZING!! I adore Asia; the food, the welcoming people(generally haha) and the vivid colours/smells/culture.
A fellow traveller recommended this website to me, after us sharing stories of homestay experiences, so I thought I'd check it out and make a profile.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

A fellow traveller recommended this website to me, after us sharing stories of fantastic homestay experiences, so I thought I'd check it out and set up a profile. So far I've been lucky enough to meet and spend time with a few lovely locals; who I for example met on buses, spoke to in a 7eleven, or hitchhiked with haha. These people opened my eyes to the cities I was in, as their local knowledge and willingness to share it gave me new experiences that I otherwise would have missed. I hope that this website will create situations like that too, and I would love to create that situation for people visiting my soon to be home in Leeds!

Interests

I love music; both listening to a wide range of genres, and playing a few instruments to a basic level. For example, my favourite genres include alternative rock, jazz, psychedelic and gentle acoustic.
I enjoy reading, especially crime thrillers, historically based fiction novels.
I love animals, especially of the furry kind, but I'm not against reptiles etc, they're still pretty cool and interesting!
I'm also interested in the wider world, and learning about how it functions, which is why I've chosen a geography degree and also probably why I love to travel to new places!
My absolute passion however is people. I just love people. I love to meet people, spend time with them, and to learn about and from them.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: as I mentioned earlier, I enjoy a wide variety of music, which goes through phases; for example, currently I've been really into listening to alternative rock and hiphop. There's not really a genre that I dislike, so as long as I can locate some musical talent from the artist, then I can appreciate the music.
Movies: a similar answer.. A variety. For example a few of my favourites are Inglorious Bastards, Jungle Book(the 1967 one!!) and Anchorman.
Books: My go to genre, is crime thrillers, however I love anything that is generally fiction, gripping and well written. I have really enjoyed reading novels set in some of the cities I have visited on my travels, as it adds a context and element of further understanding and familiarity, which I rather enjoy! My most recent reads in my kindle list are: The Hundred-Year Old Man who climbed out of the window and disappeared, by Jonad Jonasson, The Little Coffee Shop of Kabul, by Deborah Rodrigez, Once Gone, by Blake Pierce, The Night Circus(Vintage Magic), by Erin Morgenstern and The Garden or Evening Mists by Tan Twan Eng.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've trekked in Chiang Mai, SaPa, Koh Lanta, Cameron Highlands and Borneo.
I've biked through bits of Thailand(most of the islands, and Pai) and most of Vietnam(hai van pass, phong nha, dalat, Mui me etc).
I've been to caves, canyons, jungles and national parks, seen elephants, orangutans, monitor lizards, monkeys, snakes, flying lemurs etc.
I've stayed with local families in SaPa and Kuching.
I've swam with turtles and sharks... I could go on, and that's all just from this trip!!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am easy going, can help out around the house, preparing food, cleaning etc.
I love kids and animals so can babysit/petsit to give the host a break haha.
I can help anyone wanting to practice their English( and would love for the host to help me learn some basic words in their language!!)
