ABOUT ME

We are Ross and Laura. We completed a 16-month round the world trip in 2010 and are now back in Glasgow! Ross is working in a law firm as a solicitor, and Laura is working at James Watt College in Greenock.

Having both done a year abroad during our undergraduate degrees (Ross in Lund, Sweden, and Laura in Philadelphia, USA) we know how great it is to experience other countries with people that live in them and know their way around! We are keen to share our experiences of Glasgow/Scotland with people as well, as nothing beats local knowledge. We also appreciate that a break from hostels and dorm rooms is nice once in a while!

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We surfed with a load of awesome people during our travels and met some other awesome people along the way. Our experience of Couchsurfing so far is that it is a reflection of the reciprocity which ought to exist between people, regardless of their background or ethnicity. People are more important than anything, so why not do something small to help each other - after all, your company, views, knowledge and couch can all be shared for free!

Now we have returned to Glasgow, we will be hosting to repay the kindness and hospitality which has been shown to us across the globe.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Have hosted three amazing sets of people and loved every minute! We did not made as much use of Couchsurfing as we hoped on our travels for various reasons, but where we have surfed, we have been hosted by some terrific, genuine, heart-of-gold people. Every time we do it, we are reminded of how incredible it is.

Travel, food and drink are our primary passions - simple pleasures. Also love rugby, squash, swimming, scuba diving, literature, movies, card games, scrabble, Neighbours, cool old stuff, free stuff, stuff wasteful people throw out on the street, charity shops, antique shops, comedy shows, camping, campervans, art galleries (Ross loves Flemish art, the ones depicting food), wineries, tramping, the great outdoors, barbeques, stubby holders, La Creuset cookware, cantankerous old people, salsa dancing, composting, winding roads, cool days, warm nights....

Jedna niesamowita rzecz, którą zrobiłem(-am)

Only one? Jeez, ok. Sleeping under the stars for the very first time, in Spitzkoppe in Namibia with some of the chillest people I know - slightly inebriated and totally unaware of two of them consummating their newly formed relationship. Beautiful.

We want to know what people actually do and feel in their home towns/country rather than merely experience what the guidebooks say. We both feel strongly (having consulted the guidebook on Scotland) that the recommendations are often far from the best experience possible. Much of the experience of travelling is meeting people and sharing in their lives - Couchsurfing facilitates that.
