About Me

CURRENT MISSION

giddy up!!

ABOUT ME

Hola! My name's Ryan, I'm 25 and I live in Tempe, AZ. I moved here for school, but go back to Spokane, Washington (where I'm from) and also visit my friends in Seattle and Portland. I love gettin out an about, meeting new people and keeping in contact for long periods of time after. It's what makes us human: that desire to connect, converse, share and grow amongst one another. Keep on travelin!

I'm also a Spanish Linguistics grad student at Arizona State University, with my main focus being sociolinguistics. I teach Spanish at the lower levels along with my grad classes. ¡Me encanta mi vida de enseñar, aprender y pasar tiempo entre la gente de ASU!

I've been watching a lot of movies lately, currently working on IMDB's top 250 list... got a ways to go. Other than that, I spend time reading, biking around, smoking hookah and watching fútbol!

PHILOSOPHY

People really need to be honest with themselves. I have caught myself doing things for other people or for some certain norm, and it really annoyed me. Everything needs to be about bettering yourself in any way you can, and this can come in many forms, especially the person you are "with". It just seems like a waste of time if YOU are not on YOUR mind, YOU know?

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I want to make friends around the world and be able to have a good network. People are welcome all the time, as I am always in school and at my house!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Not much yet, but want to try and host! I think I have not been getting requests because I am in and out of the country quite randomly, but like I said, I would like to meet people & host.

Interests

Lots: running, hookah, maps, linguistics, hangin out, good food, travel, history, meeting people, music, culture, ............

I have been finding a lot lately that I am liking time to myself, or maybe just time where its quiet in general if people are there. Don't get me wrong, I love to talk and be social and all that, but I dunno, maybe its my pressure for grad school and where I'm gonna live and all that. I have taken a liking to reading books that are just facts lately as well. No stories or anything. Just knowledge. I'm glad I'm becoming more spongey with information, but just hope its not a phase and can last me for a few damn years!

I also love playing soccer, as I took a liking to it World Cup 2006. My friends and I live by some big fields on campus and have all the gear ready to go. Its really nice to get some fresh air and kick the ball around sometimes. Very refreshing.

I am always very open to new music, but suck at getting out there and finding it! Anyone who brings me new interesting stuff are my new best buds!

Music, Movies, and Books

All music but country. I always need new music, especially cause my iPod and Laptop were stolen in Paris! Zeppelin, Beatles, Black Star, Bob Marley, Modest Mouse, The Coup, The Shins, I don't know... I pretty much cover all the genres except for country, as they tend to sing about whiskey and horses and depressing love stories.

Most books I read are for school, like I said, I have become thirsty for knowledge lately and I'm lovin' it! And I enjoy silly books on the side

Movies are always coming in and out of my life, I just never seem to have time to catch up with all of them! And I wanna see them all! I always say I need to make a list of all the movies I need to see, and never do. The fact that I haven't made this list really puts in question how important movies are to me. I dunno. Also, I live with a film major and another guy who can't really do the mainstream stuff, plus my neighbor/friend is a film buff, so... it's hard to choose sometimes I guess!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
