About Me

MISSION
Experience the world through travel and the people that share it.

PHILOSOPHY
I think everybody has something to offer, whether it be a completely new insight, a personal lesson, or just a great time. Therefore, I find myself believing more and more that our lives are most impacted by the people we meet and become more meaningful due to the experiences we have with them.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have only couchsurfed a couple of times, and truly believe there is no better way to travel!

Music, Movies, and Books

MUSIC
Very eclectic taste - my current Pandora stations are Glass Animals, Tom Petty, Nina Simone, Balkan Beat Box, Missy Elliott, Parov Stelar...

FILM
While I tend to be drawn to documentaries about nature and social justice, I also frequently (re)watch Wes Anderson and Hayao Miyazaki films. Also can't avoid a good TV show to binge watch. Broad City, anyone?

LITERATURE
My favorite writers are Abraham Verghese, Pam Muñoz Ryan, Edward Abbey, Sandra Cisneros, Pablo Neruda... I'm an avid reader, and as a 5th grade teacher end up reading a lot of fantastic children's literature.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I worked in Nicaragua, we went to the city dump in Managua to bring school supplies to the primary school. This has become a community of over 700 people, where families build houses out of the trash and materials dumped by the city garbage trucks. Seeing the extreme poverty and the innocence, powerlessness, and resilience of the children has affected me deeply. It has influenced the goals I have for my life of reducing social injustice for vulnerable and voiceless populations.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Canada, France, India, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, Nicaragua, Spain, United Kingdom
