Why I’m on Couchsurfing

English School Volunteer and Homestay - Teach and Experience Khmer Village Life!

Who We Are:
This Rural Teaching Organisation Cambodia ( RTOC) is non profit Organisation was founded in 2014 to provide free English education in a region where learning opportunities are limited for the village children. Many children have been forced to abandon their studies at public school as their parents are unable to pay the required 500 Riel (12.5 cent) per week to the school. We are dedicated to improving access and quality of education for the local rural community of Thnol Trong village. We believe it is important to help children develop essential skills needed to make positive changes in their lives and break free from poverty.

What We Do:

We offer six classes a day – ranging from ABCs (students age 5-10) to basic grammar (students age 11-14) and conversational (students age 14-22). We have basic materials available for the students (books, markers and pencils) but our resources are limited. Since we are not able to employ full time Khmer teachers, we rely on our volunteers to teach most of the classes. We have suggested lessons but you are encouraged to bring your own ideas and creativity to the classroom! Our volunteers come from all over the world to assist with teaching, playing with the children or working on various projects to support the family’s home and the school. You can stay a few days, a few weeks, or a month depending on your availability. Classes run Monday through Friday, giving volunteers time off Saturday and Sunday to rest or explore the village and Siem Reap.

Our Vision:

Our vision is to develop a successful English program for the children of Bakong Village, and improve access and quality of education for the local rural community.
Location and Accommodation:
We are located just 13km outside of Siem Reap in Tnol Trong village in Bakong district. You will live with one of the local families, close to the school in a traditional Khmer style home, newly restored with a tiled terrace for resting and socializing. You will have your own personal space with a bed, dresser, mosquito net, and a fan. The Khmer style bathroom is communal with other volunteers – a typical squat toilet and bucket shower. Internet is now also available. Three traditional Khmer meals are provided 3 times per day, unlimited drinking water and bicycles. We are also located close to Bakong Temple and can arrange transportation to all the temples as well as to and from Siem Reap.

Due to financial limitations of the school, we do ask our volunteers pay a weekly contribution towards food and accommodation as well as school supplies and building materials. Typically, we request $40 per week, however if you stay for several weeks, we can arrange a lower weekly cost.

We know this website is normally free for each other but we say sorry to all couchsurfers that we add the price because we really need help from you as well to our education in poor village out site of the city and we hope. you will also understand our situations
