About Me

Hello! Hola! Salut!

Something was up with my notifications, and I wasn’t getting messages/requests for a while. I'm so bummed to see my reply rate at 50%...it was 100% for years. I think I finally got it sorted out with CS support! Be assured that if I actually receive your message I will reply.

I started out in Atlanta, and for years I tried to escape, first to Mexico City, then San Francisco, then New York. But Atlanta brought me back every time. I’ve since come to realize that while I learn and grow so much through travel, I also learn by staying put. My husband Sean spent his first few years in Taiwan and did most of his growing up in Houston.

Sean and I live in what some people call "Old Atlanta", and we have a stinky little fluff-ball of love named Tchotchke. Yup, we’re gay dog dads (I identify as queer too). Oh and I'm vegan (Sean's not, though).

I work as a Pediatric Nurse and Sean works as a Public Defender. We hope to do a year-long backpacking tour in Asia, Africa, and Latin America in 4-5 years, and we’re already planning and looking for advice/recommendations!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've been on and off CouchSurfing for 15 years, and as a result it has become a kind of living time capsule for me - a palimpsest that portrays how I've seen myself over the years and who I've aspired to be. In tracing the changes, I can see the shifts not only in my own life, but in society as well. And herein lies our predicament...

CouchSurfing was born because, at the time of its creation, enough people trusted each other that it was able to work. With all of the rancor and division that’s befallen the world, it’s easy to wonder if the conditions that made CouchSurfing possible are still true. Times are tough, and we're still surveying the damage to both our society and ourselves, while simultaneously bracing for what may be yet to come.

But I'll tell you one thing: this goofy old hippie of a couchsurfer is here to stay, because I know that my hope for a more radically interconnected world is a light that I can shine to help drive away the darkness of hate and despair. Let's shine together.

I like to welcome weary travelers and show them my city. However, I also want to give them personal space to recharge; I feel like many surfers on long voyages don't get enough time to themselves.

I offer the same open heart and mind that you've hopefully come to expect from all your fellow couchsurfers. I'm here to explore my own humanity by bearing witness to yours.

I offer a welcome space for gay, lesbian, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual , two-spirit, genderf**k, and everyone else who loves life and is true to their own soul. FELLOW LGBTQIAP+ SURFERS HIT ME UP! :D

Interests

Coffee with friends new and old, and discussing the dream du jour.

Dancing in the kitchen and then moving to the living room to continue dancing, with or without music.

Dishes involving either 20 or more ingredients or 3 or less ingredients.

Sporadically deciding to engage in strenuous physical activity for which I have prepared myself neither mentally or physically. Also sailing, rafting, cycling, gardening, camping, and art of all kinds.

Music, Movies, and Books

Orville Peck // Mudcat (local guy) // Thelonious Monk // Bon Iver // Dolly Parton // Beyonce (obvs) // Radiohead // Manu Chau // Bill Murray Anything // Almodovar anything // some Wes Anderson stuff // Everything Everywhere All at Once // Moby Dick (mostly because I think it has a secret gay sex scene in it) // The Overstory (just a recent book I read that I really liked) // James Baldwin stuff (though there's much more I need to read) // Kazuo Ishiguro stuff // The Invisible Life of Addie Larue was really good // The Night Watchman was super good // The Nickel Boys killed me

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I sang onstage with Joan Jett and two other people, and together we fended off a large rabid posse of college republicans. I'm not even kidding.

Teach, Learn, Share

May I defer to my good friend, Mr. Walt Whitman?

Love the earth and sun and the animals, despise riches, give alms to everyone that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown, or to any man or number of men-go freely with powerful uneducated persons, and with the young, and with the mothers or families-re-examine all you have been told in school or church or in any book, and dismiss whatever insults your own soul; and your very flesh shall be a great poem, and have the richest fluency, not only in its words, but in the silent lines of its lips and face, and between the lashes of your eyes, and in every motion and joint of your body.
