About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To experience a little bit of what the US has to offer with my sister - the dream, the buzz, the people, the deep south, the middle, the coasts, the history.

ABOUT ME

I am a curious, chatty, culinary master who gets a buzz out of hanging out with a crowd. That said, I can also be darkly sardonic, prepare utterly disastrous food creations (a percentage game) and enjoy nothing more than time alone with a decent book. A contradictory character with a strong leaning towards the former.

I'm currently working for an engineering consultancy in the UK specialising in urban regeneration / contaminated land that pays my way and lets me get outside into the elements - something I relish.

My sister, Ella, with whom I'm travelling - http://www.couchsurfing.org/people/ellamatildab/

PHILOSOPHY

I'd describe myself as a fatalist but don't consider that an excuse not to live by - The Golden Rule - treating others as you yourself would expect to be treated. A tough one.

I enjoy quotes and was recently struck by one of Rumi's - "Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing there is a field. Meet me there."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

New to the project but have donated and plan to share sofa on return from US.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've lived in Paris for 6 months and crashed on many couches. I was recommended Couch Surfing by a friend as a means to meet more Perfect Strangers.

Couch Surfing suits mine and my sisters immediate needs for our US adventure but is something that we'll both be continuing beyond this trip.

Interests

The Great Outdoors (climbing, cycle touring, running, wild camping, slack-lining...).
Global water resource issues (work related).
Good pain (Yoga, Shiatsu, accupressure, postural realignment etc.).

Music, Movies, and Books

Harukai Murakami.
Early American literature with a strong leaning towards the transcendentalists (Thoreau, Emerson, Whitman).
Tom Robbins.
Mary Oliver (poetry).

Easy with films and music. Very varied tastes... Lars von Trier, most Disney films, Coen Brothers, Clint Eastwood, Hitchcock - female vocalists {Jezabels, Bjork, Ane Brun, PJ Harvey), rock/metal (Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, AC/DC), electronica (Wiseguys, Amon Tobin, Cinematic Orchestra, Prodigy) and much more.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Booked a trip to the US!!

Teach, Learn, Share

Water that's been poured the night before tastes stale the morning after due to carbon dioxide dissolving in the water overnight and dropping the pH. I'd also describe myself as a geek.

I feel therefore I am (much more appropriate in my opinion).
