About Me

Just a travel nurse and her dog :)
Moved from New England to the west coast about 2 years ago. Have seen the sun rise from the most eastern point of the U.S- and set in the most western. Went to college in NC so have been up/down the east coast and have a huge "family" of friends who live there.

Now working on exploring all the uncharted territory!
Took advantage of travel nursing while life allowed and made a long, strange trip cross-country with my canine co-pilot! We're currently based in Northern California, Lake Tahoe to be exact.

I'm a critical care nurse, adventurer, sustainability enthusiast, local food (and everything else) lover, and am totally obsessed with my dog...

Sydney is about 14, super mellow and loves a good walk in the woods. Shorter distances these days (old hips) but she still loves a bit of adventure and just being together. Feelings mutual... I adopted her 13 years ago and take her with me everywhere. Easy-going and well-behaved, people often say they forget she's there! Syd's great with dogs and people, even tolerates kids and cats. ;) . I'm happy to chat and answer any questions to make sure we fit into your space!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I often travel solo (or with my pup) so like to meet good company along the way. Pretty self-sufficient, I can camp, sleep and cook out of my car but it's generally more comfortable inside in the wintertime. Also I'd like to get more comfortable using 'couchsurfing' to expand my travels abroad someday.

Never the "All-inclusive resort" type, I prefer to be part of the town or area I'm traveling. Couchsurfing allows a more intimate stay and potential for interesting local knowledge or recommendations from gracious hosts!

I'm currently living pretty mobile and don't have a place to call my own so I'm unable to host for now. Looking forward to "settling in" a bit down the road and opening up my couch to fellow adventurers.

Interests

I’m always outside and staying active. Have been snowboarding for 20 years! Just got serious about backcountry/splitboarding and have an AVI1 cert. Also have an EPIC ski pass to add some cushy resort days in the mix. Would love to meet knowledgeable friends to show me around their home mountains while traveling this winter!

Music, Movies, and Books

Favorite music: Most anything depending on the mood! Sometimes I love to get down and funky to dance or bluegrass rock jams, other times I'd rather chill with some folky Americana or the Grateful Dead.

Wish I read more... Currently working through "Coyote Medicine" which deals with a doctor trying to use both western & Native American medicine in a complimentary fashion- the benefits, hurdles and struggles, etc. Right up my alley as a more holistic-minded nurse who would like to integrate more of that into her practice.

I'm a sucker for story telling and love to listen to podcasts such as "The Moth," "This American Life" and "Dirtbag Diaries."

Have any recommendations?

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hiked up the "Stairway to Heaven" in Oahu, HI, in the pitch black, to watch the sunrise over Maui with my best friend who is lucky enough to live out there. The weather and the view we're perfect. That was a great morning! :)

Teach, Learn, Share

It's never bad to have a nurse around :)

What I Can Share with Hosts

Good food, snacks and hang-outs. Stories, ideas and a sense of adventure.
