Hello!

My name is Ryan and my wife Cara and I are walking across America!

Our cross-country journey will take us approximately seven months from start to finish. We are beginning our walk on the beaches of Santa Monica, California and then walking 3,500 miles to finish in Times Square, New York City. The vast majority of the time we will be camping in the wild or staying in motels, but would love getting the chance to meet and stay with people through Couchsurfing when possible.

I’m from Sydney, Australia and Cara was born in Indianapolis, Indiana. We met back in 2012 and have been married since 2018. Cara has a long history of working in childcare and I’ve worked as both an elementary school teacher and in the hotel industry. We are now full time travelers working online for the travel industry.

Both of us are extremely tidy and non smokers.

Our favourite thing about traveling is the people we meet along the way. At the end of our trips, it's not memories of the sights we saw that stick with us, but rather memories of the people we've met.

I’ve already had many incredible experiences with Couchsurfing in the past, making lifelong friends all over the world.

We absolutely love traveling and had so many incredible experiences around the world.

We have been talking about walking across America for many years, but kept putting it off. Last year we finally decided to take the plunge and set a departure date for March 2024. In the months leading up we have been training and rigorously planning every mile.

Our route involves many challenges such as surviving multiple days between water stops and avoiding rattlesnakes in the Mojave Desert, finding accomodation through the endless plains of the Midwest and safely crossing the Appalachian Mountains of Pennsylvania, but we are optimistic that the people we meet along the way and lessons we learn will be worth of this.
