关于我

ABOUT ME

*I've been living in and around Detroit for about 6 years now, but only recently (within the past year) moved into a two bedroom home in Ferndale. I didn't want to write a novel on here, but what is written decently encompasses who I am insofar as how much text in a box can.

I have been grateful to have relied upon the kindness of strangers in the past and have had some incredibly enriching experiences as a result of having done so.

PHILOSOPHY

So it goes...

*don't be alarmed because I'm not "verified". I think that asking people to pay money sort of defeats the purpose of the entire site. No amount of money substitutes for good judgment and kindness - be smart and safe, but also be sane!*

我为什么加入 Couchsurfing

I have never hosted a couchsurfer though am just now in a position to host. I have surfed in the past on a few occasions and definitely was grateful for having met those whom I've met. Having said that, I'm open to short stays and providing company to those who are passing through! Longer stays (i.e. 4+days) will be considered, but on a case by case basis.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've had two experiences, both surfing, once with a gal here in Ferndale while looking for an apartment in the area nearly 5 years ago! Caryn actually lives right down the road from me and I consider her to be a great gal!

The second experience was during a bicycle ride down to Columbus, OH in May of 2015. Passing through Fremont, I met Brett and his daughter Hannah. They were both as kind as they were hospitable. I'm definitely fortunate to have met them.

兴趣

I enjoy reading, running, hiking, biking, drinking (in moderation!), laughing, and both intellectual and downright hypothetical/ridiculous conversations, and music. I'd take a beer and a record-listening session over going out 99/100 times. Above all, I enjoy learning for the sake of learning and what better way to do that than interact with people I would not otherwise interact with?

音乐、电影和书籍

Tobias Wolff, Kurt Vonnegut Jr. J.M. Coetzee, David Sedaris, etc.

I tend to lean toward indie/indie rock and definitely seize opportunities to listen to live music whenever I can. While big shows can be great, I'm more of a small venue/dive bar type. I have a vinyl collection that will rival most collections and while I believe you can tell a lot about someone via the music they listen to, I have a little bit of everything.

Regarding films, I'll watch anything. However, I like to laugh. Not many things are better than b-movies with friends and ridiculous commentary. Have you ever watched the Bizarre TV Roku Channel? Remind me to introduce you if you haven't. You're welcome in advance.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

I biked down to Columbus! The second day was 108 miles. You might be thinking "Well, Ryan - that's great but...people do those sorts of things all the time!" Without training? Non-athletic types? Dad-bod since 2012 types?

I couldn't feel my legs the last 50 or so miles, but dammit, I made it!

教,学,和分享

I tend to get lost inside my own head most of the time. I love interacting and learning from those who are contrastingly different. I am somewhat of an introvert and am, at times, intentionally awkward for kicks, but love hearing new jokes. I'm drawn toward extroverts and those who are genuinely inquisitive as I find it counter-balances my introverted tendencies. If you have any particular skills, I'd love to learn them (inclusive of different languages). Have any cocktail recipes, hometown beers you'd recommend, or obscure bands you think I might like? Share!

I'm a decently mannered, eccentric, introverted, clean, non-creepazoid offering a bed/shower/kitchen (etc.), conversation, and possibly accompaniment on a jaunt or two in and around Detroit and its surrounding areas. The spare bed is also my office when I work from home, but other than the possible need to get something from the room during the daytime, the room will be entirely yours during the stay.

I definitely love talking about my job, experiences, and movies/music. I'd love to make you a Spotify playlist that will knock your socks off, put them back on, and take you dancing BEFORE buying you a drink and telling you copious amounts of dad jokes.

HAVING SAID ALL THAT.....Because I work a lot and my schedule can be chaotic, there's a slight chance we might be like ships passing in the night - which is fine unless you were dead-set on something beyond a place to surf for a little while. All I ask is that anyone who visits (in no specific order):

1. Do not be a creep/jerk. Eccentric and quirky people are fine - just no thieves, addicts, pricks, or overly needy people.

2. Be Clean! A little clutter is fine, but things like leaving messes on the counter, tracking mud around the place, or "letting yellow mellow" are quick ways to rub me the wrong way. I know a dirty birdie when I see one, so if you think you might be one, please look elsewhere. To anyone else who is concerned with cleanliness, look no further - I'm borderline diagnosable!

3. No indoor smoking/drugs, Don't get wildly boozy (you know what I mean).
