About Me
Hey, I'm Ryan and in September of 2017 I started to travel the world. I was in the British Army for some time before deciding to give it up and fly on a one way ticket to Rio. I've never looked back.
As there is a limited backpacking scene here in the US, I thought what better way than to try out Couchsurfing, meet some great and crazy locals, making friends along the way and visiting this amazing country with tips from the people who actually live here!
I joined the Army very young, straight from school. I had multiple short deployments before finding myself living in Brunei (Boarders Malaysia) for a year throughout 2015/16. whilst on deployment there I was fortunate enough to visit Australia and Indonisia. On my return, things just weren't the same. I had caught the travel bug, and i wanted more! so after another 6 month deployment in Medicine Hat, Alberta I finally left the Army in the Summer of 2017.
Since leaving the Army i have visited 15 different countries throughout South and Central America including my notable favourites of Peru, Colombia and Guatamala. Now, as i near the end of my trip i plan on visiting or driving through 19 different states before heading to Canada in at the end of August.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm on couch surfing to meet some fun exciting people who could possible show me or at least give me insider information on the area of the USA that they live in and love.
Interests
From a young age i have always loved playing sports. Football (soccer) and Rugby have been my most successful, the later culminating in playing for the British Army in London during the 2015 world cup in front of 10,000 spectators. Golf has never been my strongest sport but I do love it and have played from a young age.
As is obvious from above, I love to travel. However what i haven't spoke about is my love for travel photography which i picked up after trying to photograph the Northern Lights in Canada with my cell phone. I am now crazy into this hobby and I cant wait for the 14th of July when I will be in the grand canyon so I photograph the Milky Way on the New Moon. Hence my love of National Parks too.
Being in the military myself, it would almost be rude if i didn't love military history

Music, Movies, and Books
Okay, so this is where people call me a bit crazy. I really don't have a favourite type of music. Just as long as its not Metal or Screamo, i'm happy.
Movies on the other hand are my favourite past time, along with T.V shows they take up the remaining percentage of my time while travelling when i'm not sightseeing, socialising over a beer or eating.
Books are heavy man!!!! but i do listen to audio books. I am currently listening to a clash of kings, the second instalment of George R.R Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
OMG how do i even choose.
I would say...
...Climbing Acatenango Volcano in Guatamala. It's at 4000m/13000ft and the views from the top are absolutely out of this world, oh and i didn't mention. It looks over Fuego Volcano, an active vlocano which erupts approximately every 20 minutes.
Teach, Learn, Share
Not really sure what this section means but if you are looking to get into photography then I would be more than glad to teach you the basics when taking more control out of your camera.
What I Can Share with Hosts
