About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To travel the world, of course, and to live as simply and happily as possible. I bought into the "American Dream" when I was younger... go to school, get married, buy a house, have some kids and then work your life away. Before that all materialized, I realized that wasn't the life for me. I learned that I value freedom over debt slavery.

ABOUT ME

I'm a very personable guy. I get along with just about everyone. I love people and like to spend most my time with friends. I used to be married, I have owned four homes and was once a co-owner of a land surveying company with my brother. I realized long ago, after my divorce, that the more I owned, the more those things owned me. I spent a few years undoing all those anchors. I paid off my credit card debt, sold my house, quit my position in my company and went sailing in the South Pacific. Upon returning, I quickly moved to Florida and reinvented myself. I went from the land to the sea and became a boat captain. Now my life is wide open for anything. I feel a deep sense of freedom that I never experienced in that previous life. It's pretty cool :)

PHILOSOPHY

I am always right where I'm supposed to be even if I may not like it. Every experience is an opportunity to learn something new. I try and go where the wind blows me. In the movie "The Beach" Leonardo DeCaprio says something along these lines... "Never resist the unfamiliar, never refuse an invitation, never fail to be polite and never outstay your welcome" Sounds like wisdom to me.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love all kinds of movies, music and books that the list would be quite extensive. I'll leave it at that.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I sailed from Tahiti to New Zealand.

Teach, Learn, Share

I definitely believe I am a student of life so I'm always open to learning something new. Also, I have lived through a lot in my short time and feel like I can share a little wisdom I've picked up. I am a spiritual person and have some views that aren't exactly mainstream. I only discuss those philosophies with someone who is open and wanting to learn or listen. I always love sharing a message of hope. Otherwise, I keep that stuff to myself.
Basically, from my couchsurfing experience I've determined that the conversation will naturally follow a course and I'm insightful enough to just participate in the flow.

What I Can Share with Hosts
