Overview
About Me
I am an entrepreneur and trader specializing in import and export. I am the founder and general manager of MERVAN İthalat İhracat Ve Ticaret Ltd. Şti. in Turkey. I have years of practical experience in international trade, particularly between Turkey and several regional markets.
In addition to my business activities, I am a political science student at a Turkish university. My research interests include foreign policy, national security, and the role of non-governmental actors in international relations. I intend to pursue a master's degree in the same field. I strive to combine practical experience with academic study and to develop projects with both economic and social impact.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I’m on Couchsurfing because I genuinely enjoy connecting with people from different cultures and backgrounds, and I believe that real understanding comes from direct human interaction, not just from books or the news. As someone who lives and works in Turkey and frequently travels for business and study, I value the opportunity to meet locals and travelers, exchange experiences, and see cities through the eyes of the people who actually live there. At the same time, I like to share what I know about life in Turkey and the region, offer practical help and honest advice, and create a welcoming atmosphere for those who are visiting. For me, Couchsurfing is not just a way to find a place to sleep; it is a way to build meaningful connections, practice languages, broaden my perspectives, and contribute—on a small, personal scale—to a more open and understanding world

Music, Movies, and Books
Music
I listen to a mix of Arabic, Turkish and international music. I like songs with meaningful lyrics and emotion more than “club” music. I enjoy classic Arabic songs, some Turkish pop, and occasionally instrumental or soft music when I’m working or studying.
Books
I read a lot of non-fiction: history, politics, international relations and biographies. I’m especially interested in books that explain how countries are governed, how decisions are made, and how societies change over time. I also enjoy personal development books that help me improve in work, study and life.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
One amazing thing I’ve done was rebuilding my life and career from zero after the war. I moved to Turkey, established my own import–export company, and slowly grew it into a business that supports not only my family but also creates opportunities and jobs for others connected to Syria and the region. At the same time, I went back to university to study Political Science, because I believe understanding how the world works is as important as doing business in it. Balancing family life, work, and study has not been easy, but turning a very difficult period into a new beginning is something I am genuinely proud of.
Teach, Learn, Share
Teach
I can teach Arabic (especially conversation), and share about Syrian and Turkish culture, traditions and daily life. Because I work in import–export and study political science, I can also share basic knowledge about doing business between Turkey and the region, and discuss politics and international relations in a simple, practical way.
Learn
I am always interested in learning how people really live in other countries: your culture, values, challenges and hopes. I would like to learn new languages or at least a few useful phrases, discover local food and coffee, and understand how business and society work in your city.
Share
I can share honest advice about life in Turkey, travel between Turkey and Syria, and the region in general. I enjoy sharing stories, ideas, and personal experiences, and I am happy to listen as well. If possible, I like to share simple Syrian or Turkish food, good coffee, and a respectful, calm atmosphere where we can talk openly.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Respectful company and good conversation – I am calm, polite and independent. I respect house rules, privacy and schedules, and I enjoy meaningful conversations about life, culture, business and politics (only if you are interested, of course).
Culture & language – I can share Syrian and Turkish culture, customs and stories from the region, and help you with Arabic (and some Turkish) if you are learning or just curious.
Cooking & coffee – When possible, I am happy to prepare simple Syrian or Turkish dishes, or at least make you good coffee and bring small snacks from where I live.
Practical help – I can share advice about travelling or doing business in Turkey and the region, and I am always ready to help with small things if you need assistance.
Trust & reliability – I am a family man and an entrepreneur; I take commitments seriously. If you host me, you can expect someone responsible, clean, and grateful for your hospitality.
