About Me

I have lived in cities as large as Houston, Texas (several million) to a town as small as 450 people. Washington is my eighth state to live in. I am not hip or cool, don't do social media, prefer physical books to Kindle, and don't use many processed foods. But I try to be thoughtful about my curmudgeonly ways--have them based in values not grumpiness! I hate bad silverware, so I usually have my own fork and spoon with me. So a bit of an eccentric.

I enjoy peacefulness at home because my work is stressful. So I garden and bake and hang out with my pets (two cats and a large dog). So I tend to putter around the house and just relax. Again, not hip or exciting, but it works for me.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have always wanted to travel more but have been limited by time and funds, so when a co-worker told me about couchsurfing, it was intrigued. It sounds like a great way to offer hospitality to those who are traveling and maybe create some travel opportunities for myself.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm pretty open about music--everything from opera to classical country--except rap. I just never can get past the mysogyny of the lyrics and general lack of melody. I want more than rhythm.

Favorite movies, oh my. Everything from "Citizen Kane" to "Life is Beautiful" to "My Favorite Year" to "Beasts of the Southern Wild." I do like some of the blockbuster type movies but I don't enjoy violence or meanness, so the movies I'm interested in are becoming fewer. I use a streaming service for home and find I am usually watching the documentaries.

I'm tend to read a lot of non-fiction nowadays, especially history, but every so often I'll get back to novels. I prefer the older novels--classics generally--rather than contemporary. I like the exploration of big ideas vs. domestic dramas.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm not an amazing person. I've done some interesting things, seen and appreciated beautiful places, had great friends, and done good work. Don't have the need to be amazing.
