ABOUT ME

Peter and I are retired, fit and active. We like to run, cycle, walk, sail, travel and read. We enjoy meeting people and spend time with our children, grandchildren and friends. We are interested in global issues and are environmentalists on a very small scale. Peter was delighted to cycle across Canada in 2008 with a group of people and enjoyed the camaraderie and challenge of the trip. We cycled across Canada in 2010 on our tandem and recently returned from a cycling trip in New Zealand and Australia.

PHILOSOPHY

We are targeting to live to at least 100 years old, and plan to experience many different things over the next forty odd years. However, we have made a conscious choice to avoid traveling to war torn countries and we still plan to go on cycle touring trips as much as possible.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Peter and I compete in athletics (track and road racing) and enjoy hosting Warm Showers and Couch Surfer guests! Our best vacations have been cycling tours, though we also enjoy driving trips.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We enjoyed the experience of staying with friends and family in New Zealand, where we huddled in the living room around the single heater and in Australia where we slept under a net with cockroaches and a carpet snake on the outside. We never look for fancy, but we do like interesting.

We are avid readers when we have time, Peter loves to work with data to plan and organize trips, events, processes, etc. in detail. We cycle, run, hike, garden and socialize. Peter and I both enjoy cooking healthy meals including eating what will survive in our garden.

We enjoy foreign films and films with good character development. We read a variety of books of many different genres including the Dark Tower series by Stephen King. Not your standard fare, but very very exciting. Our music tastes range from classical to Pink Floyd.

Peter did a solo non-stop sailing circumnavigation of the world in a 32 foot sloop. He left from Santa Barbara and returned 236 days later. I received the Queens Royal Jubilee medal and also came in first in my age category in a large half marathon. That may be ordinary, but it was most amazing to me.
