About Me

CURRENT MISSION
Travelling. Break from boat maintenance.

ABOUT ME

It would fill a book or two! Cruised the world in the early 70's, and since 2001. Raised a daughter. Ran a small business.
Most important, however, is my spiritual journey of personal growth.

PHILOSOPHY

That's a tough question! I am currently working to get in touch with emotions long buried. I spent most of my life in thinking mode rather than emotional. Despite evidence of mankind's many failings, I am still an idealist and believe mankind is able to do far better. I believe we need to and can live in peace and harmony and cooperation rather than the current greed, war, and competition.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have no experience with this organization, but stayed with about 30 different friends and relatives when I travelled from NZ to Germany for hip surgery - and back. I could not climb on and off the boat while recovering, so I took the opportunity to visit lots of people.
The first was the wife of a fellow cruising sailor who made arrangements for me to stay with her and have the surgery done by his son. The three of them are among the top angels on my long list.

Interests

Personal growth.
Sailing, and other forms of traveling.
Social activism.
Creative arts.
Computer programming -(beginner, studying Java on my own.)
Debating/ discussing a wide range of topics.

Music, Movies, and Books

Comedy (but not slap stick), science and science fiction, good drama. Classical music (not that I could name anything!), folk, sea chanties, 60's. Too many books to name, currently into the personal growth genre. What makes us tick.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Gave birth to my daughter (at home).

Teach, Learn, Share

I have a certificate to teach English as a Second Language but that generally requires more time. On a short visit I can share sailing stories and my personal perceptions of various cultures. I would like to continue to add to them - cultural insights into the human condition.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Sailing stories, debates on a variety of topics. I'm not into idle chit chat. Help with chores.

Countries I’ve Visited

American Samoa, Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Brunei Darussalam, Cook Islands, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Fiji, France, French Polynesia, Germany, Guam, Indonesia, Mauritius, Netherlands Antilles, New Zealand, Panama, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Switzerland, Tonga, Tuvalu, United States, Virgin Islands, British
