Who am I? Well, instinctive response is that I'm Jono, and I'm a midwife... although I hope that doesn't define who I am in my entirety! I do love my work though, it's such a privilege to be with women as they blossom into new mums... And it does pay for the travel expenses, which is a bonus!

Part of the joy of my job is the relationship you form with your patients, and for me it's the same with travel. It's not simply about going to places, and seeing and experiencing the things there... but doing it with people, and getting to know both the people you travel with and the ones you meet along the way.

Grew up in Malaysia until my teens, but now call Melbourne home.

I think it's amazing there's a platform that really just speaks to why I travel, and helps facilitate the encounters that make travel about the journey and the relationships, instead of simply a destination.

I'm so transient that I'll have to check my living arrangements at the time, but I hope to be able to host any CSers who come to Australia in future!

Some would say that my hobby is collecting new hobbies!

I just love discovering, trying my hand at things, exploring new places, meeting new people. The one thing I find it difficult to do, is to say no when offered an opportunity!

In everyday life though, I'm a runner, and I love getting out and exploring the trails, the more remote the better.
No matter how much I run though, I can't seem to outrun my love for good food and drink! Also one thing about me, if there's a choice, I won't order the same thing off a menu twice - I always have to try something new!
And for downtime, you'll either find me with my nose in a book, or turning the brain off with a bit of gaming.

🎶 I'll listen to almost anything, nothing too heavy though - not really into rap or metal l, etc. Not too up with the latest pop, usually stuff from the 90's and earlier, a lot of indie folk, singer-songwriter stuff, . Oh, and I sing in a little community pop choir. 😁

🎥 Not super huge into movies, when I do head to the streaming apps it's usually for something light hearted to escape from life for an hour or three. Think an action or sci-fi movie, something from the Marvel universe, or an old school rom-com. Definitely no horror, and I've got to be in the mood for a psychological thriller or drama.

📚 Again, I read mainly to escape from reality for a time. Too many books to list, but some favourites are:
Watership Down
Pride and Prejudice
Tom Clancy novels
Any good fantasy series that I can get lost in a different world for a bit.

I've gotta start with work - it's pretty amazing seeing new life being brought into the world, and equally as amazing seeing women magically transform into mothers, and being able to be there to help and support them in that journey!

Travel wise, a couple of years ago I hiked to the peak of Kilimanjaro! 🏔️ That's a beautiful, brutal hike, that anyone who loves hiking and mountains should do if they ever have the opportunity!

And more recently, I sailed for three months on an old (think pirates of the Caribbean style) sailing ship across the Indian Ocean, from Bali to Cape Town. ⚓
