Hi! My name is Sam & I live here in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the fine city in which I was born & raised. As a young kid I traveled a lot with my family spending 3 months backpacking in Southern Africa in Zimbabwe, Tanzania & Malawi. A couple years later we spent a couple months trekking in the Himalayas in Nepal. There were many more trips but these two experiences in particular [I was only 6 & 8 years old at the time] gave me a real appreciation for travel at a young age. As of late I haven't had as many opportunities to travel & get to know different cultures but I hope to change that soon.

Currently, I have the funnest job in the world working as the Music Librarian at our local campus community radio station CJSR & am actively involved in our city's music & arts scenes. I organize an experimental film collective here in Edmonton and have hosted touring filmakers from across Canada & the US. I love going to live shows in our city and supporting the local diy music scene in any way I can. In my free time I actively hunt down & buy old records, 45s to be exact. The vast portion of my 7" collection consists of black group harmony soul records from the mid 60s to early 70s but recently I have been enjoying acquiring some 60s & 70s Beninese Jerk music, Early 60s traditional music from Morocco & popular 60s records from the Arabian gulf. Yeah I'm a big nerd.

I currently own three different bikes which I use all four seasons to get around everywhere in addition to spending a huge chunk of my life going exploring with them for fun. I have a 70s Sekine for Winter Riding, an 80s Bianchi road bike which is my Spring & Summer bike & a beautiful late 70s Proctor track bike which is my pride & joy.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I plan on making it out to many of the awesome DIY music festivals across Canada this summer [Ottawa Explosion, Garbage Daze in Calgary, Incline Decline in Guelph, Shake-arama in Victoria & Vancouver, Sappyfest in Sackville, etc.] I hope to meet some new people along the way and couchsurf in the cities where I don't know anyone yet.
