Overview
About Me
Hello:)! My name is Sam. I am 23 years old.
I live in Rotterdam on a beautiful old coaster ship. Living on a boat is one of the best things ever. Sharing it with other people is even better:). My roommate has a Couchsurfing profile and we have hosted multiple people and slept at many couches together. Since I'll be traveling alone this summer, I have created my own profile (which apparently I already did in 2019 but forgot about)
I love to dance, always have, ever since I was young. My mom, brother and I would always dance in the kitchen while doing the dishes. I still do that now, dancing in the kitchen. I also love to cook for my friends. I love going on adventures. Last year I did a very challenging 7 hour hike in Switzerland without any hiking experience and it was one of the best experiences of my life.
I work in the creative industry for a small social museum that makes immigration stories visible.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm on Couchsurfing because I like meeting new people. I have experienced that I find traveling most fun and relaxed when sleeping at the houses of my friends. Mostly because it has a homey feeling but also because they are able to show you the really nice places. I figured, since I don't have friends in all countries, Couchsurfing would be the best way to meet new friends:)!

Music, Movies, and Books
My favorite music is live music.
I love live music from jazz to alternative rock bands.
I also love a good DJ.
My favorite DJ is Zepp he plays live drums while also DJ-ing, its the best ever.
My favorite movie is Pride, a very British movie about a group of queer people who starts supporting the minors while they are striking in the time that Thatcher was ruling. I also love 'Call me by your name', I know it's a cliché but this movie feels like a long hot summer, which I love.
My favorite book is Men without woman from Haruki Murakami. The writing style of this writer is so beautiful, he really captures the mundane.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
When I was 18 I set up a pop-up bar.
There were a few special things about this bar:
- The bar was fully run by young people, around the age of 18.
- The bar was a 'barefoot' bar, so no one could wear shoes inside.
- There was art in all forms showing in this bar (movies, bands, clothes, pictures, paintings etc.) and everything was made by young people.
Organizing this event was the breeding ground for my studies and now my career:)!
Teach, Learn, Share
Teach:
I can teach you how to cook. I know it sounds weird coming from a Dutch person, but I know my spices and I love to cook:) Let's do that together.
Learn
I would love to learn Spanish.
I went to Spain when I was 16 to learn Spanish. Although I was a serious student, my Spanish only got up to A1 level. Since it is such a long time ago, it has now sunk to none-existent. I have always loved Spanish and would love to get back into learning the language.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can share my warm personality and my cooking skills:)!
