About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Learning and adventuring!

ABOUT ME

I'm a very calm, mellow person who gets along with almost everyone. I'm also very athletic, and I love outdoor sports. Whenever I have time I run, rock-climb, hike, ski, and generally enjoy life outside. I also love learning, reading, discussions, debate, ect. I'm very interested in current events in my own and other countries, and I love discussing them.

PHILOSOPHY

Life doesn't happen to you, you have to make things happen and take risks. Talk to someone you might disagree with. Take a hike that might leave you cold and wet and lost and hungry. Climb a cliff you're not sure you can do without falling. Travel to a continent where you don't know anyone. Live!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'll be on a trip in Turkey for November and December of 2016, so I can't host during those times.

When I'm not on a trip:

I can often host on week days, and sometimes on weekends if I'm in town (not very common). I can also show people the outdoor side of Vancouver, and may be able to take people on camping trips in the mountains, depending if there's car space available and the trip is non-technical.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I learned about couchsurfing just before starting a long trip to Europe. I surfed in Italy, Spain, Sweden, and Norway, and some of the most interesting people I met were couchsurfing hosts. I was able to give back a bit when I hosted in Vancouver, and now I'm hoping to meet more great people surfing in Turkey!

Interests

Running, skiing, hiking, climbing, science, social sciences, long discussions with people I've just met, laughing with those same people, learning pretty much anything, sleeping under the stars, cooking good food, good alcohol, good humor...

Music, Movies, and Books

Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Richard Dawkins, Steven Pinker, Edward Abbey. Movies are Braveheart, V for Vendeta, Shrek... anything funny or moving. For music I like techno or Enya.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Our family has a primitive cabin about 130 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle in Alaska. I've gone there for a couple weeks most years of my life to hike, fish, hunt, and live simply. It's one of my favorite places. I've also trekked in the Everest region of Nepal for almost a month, and spent many nights sleeping under the stars in desert in the American Southwest.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach cross country or downhill skiing, rock climbing, economics, statistics, and math. In Alaska, I can also take people hiking and camping in less touristy areas where there's few people. In Vancouver, I can show people the outdoor scene.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can cook good food, show pictures of outdoor adventures I've been in, go on outdoor adventures, have intelligent conversations, ect.

Countries I’ve Visited

Italy, Mexico, Nepal, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden

Countries I’ve Lived In

Canada, United States
