ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm Sam.

I'm from Exeter in the South West of the UK. I currently live and study in Bristol, UK

I'm really interested in all kinds of things, especially languages, history, motorbikes and rugby. At the moment I'm trying to teach myself Spanish and it's going well! (Although it'll be a while before I'm much use in a lengthy conversation)

I really enjoy being outdoors, particularly in the sunshine, I also love to couple that with reading. I enjoy reading work by travel authors such as Jan Morris, Sam Manicom, Douglas Rogers and Peter Moore.

I like meeting new people, especially when they're outgoing and sociable. I really enjoy meeting new people with similar interests to me.

I'd like to look back on my life and be able to say that I did the things I wanted to do and saw the places I wanted to see. Simple as.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm still totally new here and so I haven't contributed a great amount, I'd love to start hosting people from all over the world and show them what a great town I live in.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have couchsurfed only once but I have met many others through couchsurfing and the experience has been incredible. So far this is all still very new to me but I'm really enjoying how welcoming the whole community has been

Sports; rugby mostly but I also enjoy cricket and football

Reading, movies and video games are always a favourite past-time.

Something about traveling that particularly excites me is visiting areas that many people avoid for fear of them being unsafe, I wouldn't go as far as visiting Iraq or Afghanistan anytime soon but they're definitely on the list.

My dream is to follow a trip done by one of my favourite authors Peter Moore. He travelled overland from London to his home in Sydney. I would love to do the opposite trip travelling overland to England from Sydney.

Movies: I like a whole range of film genres but my favourites are probably Serenity, any Tarantino film, Blood Diamond and Alien.

Music: I listen to almost all genres of music and am always open to new sounds. Some of my favorites are Jack Johnson, Johnny Cash, Gaslight Anthem and Bastille.

I'm really hooked on local musicians like Ben Howard and Sam Luca. If you're ever in Devon I seriously recommend checking these guys out

Books: I read a lot. Like a lot a lot. My favourite authors are Terry Pratchett, J.R.R. Tolkien, John Steinbeck, Rusty Young, Philip K. Dick and Max Brooks. My all-time favourite books are 'The Great Gatsby', 'Marching Powder' and 'A Scanner Darkly'

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

Too hard to narrow it down to one so here are three:

I went white water rafting along the Zambezi river in view of Victoria Falls.

I trekked the Annapurna Base Camp trek in Nepal and absolutely loved it.

I've spent time on the southern islands of Thailand and the experience of the mix of party and relaxation was something that'll be hard to forget.

My home city of Exeter was the most south westerly Roman fortified settlement in Britain. It was also a major Loyalist stronghold during the Civil War.
