Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Two years ago I'd have said it's because I like "getting off the beaten track." Then I realised this was also the mantra of almost every other middleclass twentysomething traveller I met on the road (we almost always ended up in the middle of the same tourist hubs anyway).

Now I'm content just to approach travel with flexibility, relaxed spontaneity and - most importantly - an open mind. Besides, strong tea and good conversation can be just as fulfilling as taking selfies with the Eiffel Tower.
