About Me
Hey everyone! I’m Sergio 🌎
I was born in Colombia and moved to Québec when I was 6, so I grew up between two cultures that I’m incredibly proud of. I speak French and Spanish fluently, I’m comfortable in English, and if you speak slowly, I can understand Portuguese, Catalan, Italian and Romanian too. Yeah, romance languages are kind of my thing 😄
I'm 20, and I’m at that point in life where I really want to step out of my comfort zone and discover different realities. For me, traveling isn’t just about place, it’s about understanding the world and the people in it on a deeper level.
I’m currently studying Anthropology at Université Laval. I’m deeply passionate about understanding human societies and I genuinely want to meet them where they live and understand their way of life.
I carry both of my identities with pride: Colombian by roots, Québécois by heart. I love sharing my cultures, my perspective, and meaningful conversations.
Now here’s something important about me: I have a dream of visiting every country in the world. Not just for the adventure (though that’s a big part of it), but because I truly believe that every place has a story worth telling. Even in countries facing hardship or conflict, there are people just trying to live normal lives, people who didn’t choose where they were born. I want to meet them, hear their stories, and show not only the struggles but also the beauty that exists everywhere.
I’m always up for meeting new people, sharing experiences, and learning from different perspectives. So if you feel like it, send me a message! And if you ever pass through Québec City, it would be awesome to meet up 🙂
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I’m on Couchsurfing for one simple reason: to create real human connections.
There’s something powerful about the platform’s spirit “you have friends all over the world, you just haven’t met them yet.” I truly believe that.
Growing up, we’re often taught to be cautious of strangers. And while that can be important in some situations, it can also build invisible walls between people. Society sometimes makes spontaneous, genuine connection feel rare or even risky. But I don’t believe that most people are bad. It's quite the opposite actually hahaha.
As Jean-Jacques Rousseau said, “Man is naturally good; it is society that corrupts him.” That idea resonates deeply with me.
So being here is my way of breaking those barriers. I’m here to meet open-minded, curious, and inspiring people. To share conversations, stories, perspectives and to build meaningful connections across cultures.
At the end of the day, I’m just here to meet the friends I haven’t met yet!

Music, Movies, and Books
Music 🎶
I’m pretty consistent when it comes to music. I can replay the same songs for years and never get tired of them. I generally like Québécois pop music (Trois Accords, 2Frères, etc.) but for me, one band stands above the rest: Les Cowboys Fringants. I’m a huge fan and know a big part of their discography, especially the "Octobre" album.
One song that really hits me is “Ici-bas”. It reflects on the human condition, life’s struggles, and the perseverance needed to get through them. I also love “Pizza galaxie,” “Marine marchande,” “Les feuilles mortes,” “L’Amérique pleure”… honestly, every song feels like a coup de cœur! If you’ve never listened to them, I strongly recommend, it's worth your while!
Books 📚
I wouldn’t call myself a big reader😅, but I’ve been diving into Earth’s Children, by Jean M. Auel, and I love it. The books are huge, and I’m only halfway through volume 3, but the journey is absolutely worth it.
Films & Documentaries 🎥
I don’t watch many movies! I’m so much more into documentaries. I’m especially a fan of platforms like ARTE, DW, and BBC. They produce fascinating content, often focused on social issues and real-world challenges, which I find both eye-opening and deeply engaging.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
In 2025, I went by myself to an Innu Pow Wow in Pessamit, on Québec’s Côte-Nord. It lasted only one weekend and I was hitchhiking by myself. I didn’t expect much more than a cultural event, and maybe some nice conversations with people. However, what I experienced was something far deeper.
On the way there, on Friday evening, I got picked up by a couple of incredibly kind and genuine Innu people, Rémy and Monik. As it turned out, they were going exactly where I was headed… but to their cottage, deep in the Nitassinan.
I had planned to camp at the community since everything was already set up for that. But when I told them, they immediately said: “No way you’re camping. You’ll sleep better with us, we have a room for you!”
And just like that, my plans changed.
That night, I found myself in the middle of the forest, under a sky full of stars, sharing conversations about life and its meaning with four Innu people. No noise, no distractions, just humans connecting. It was magical.
The Pow Wow itself was amazing. It was full of culture, energy, and warmth. I met great people, including a medicine student I still talk to from time to time.
And somehow, it didn’t stop there. On Sunday, the same couple gave me a ride back too. No need to hitchhike, no stress… just trust, generosity, and human connection.
That experience stayed with me. It reminded me that when you open yourself to the world, the world often opens back to you.
For me, that’s what traveling is all about.
Teach, Learn, Share
Discovering Québec with a local guide 🏰
I studied in Old Québec, so I know that part of the city like the back of my hand. If you’re passing through, I’d be thrilled to show you around!
I love sharing the history, culture, and current challenges of Québec with anyone curious to learn more. I can also talk about my own experience as an immigrant and what it’s like to live with a dual cultural identity.
I enjoy calm, rational debates about almost anything! Ideas are always more fun when shared.
Languages are another passion of mine, so I’m always up for a linguistic challenge! I’d be happy to teach a few words in the languages I speak to anyone who’s interested.
Basically: if you want to explore Québec, swap ideas, and maybe learn some new words along the way, I’m your guy!
What I Can Share with Hosts
Besides being attentive to your interests and adapting to them, here’s what I can offer:
- Deep, meaningful conversations about anything you want :)
- Honest and genuine friendship
- A local guide to explore the best of Québec City
- Laughter, good times, and memories that stick
Basically, I’m here to share experiences, stories, and a good vibe with anyone I meet!
