About Me

CURRENT MISSION

based in New Delhi at the moment, traveling when I have the chance

ABOUT ME

Perhaps a little quiet at first but once I get comfortable with someone I'm pretty outgoing. I like to philosophize and whatnot, but I like to joke around and have fun too! I give my friends a hard time and they do the same for me. After all, if we can't laugh at ourselves, someone else will.

PHILOSOPHY

Too much to put into a little blurb like this, but I love to talk philosophy in person!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Hosted a great surfer in Spring 2013 in New York, unfortunately didn't have much time to show him around the city, but it was great to hear about so many interesting travels and life experiences! In late May/early June I couchsurfed in France on my way to Amman for the summer.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Hosted once, couchsurfed across France and a bit in Cyprus, met up with some cool people in Amman.

Interests

I really love a few different sports/athletic activities. I kayak, snowboard, and just generally try to keep in shape. The home I grew up in was very artistic and it definitely rubbed off on me. I love to paint, draw, and write, and I enjoy going to museums as well. Love me some poetry. If you're a TS Eliot fan, we'll be sure to get along. Just graduated with a degree in Middle Eastern Studies (studied a good bit of poli sci, too), and I love talking about anything related to either. I really enjoy a good conversation of any kind.

Music, Movies, and Books

Love me some alternative/indie/indie-folk (The Decemberists, The Black Keys, Andrew Bird, Alt-J, Belle & Sebastian, The Shins, etc.) but I'll always have a special place in my heart for Led Zeppelin. In the past few years I've gone off the deep end for hip hop, but I'm still relatively new to the genre, so my knowledge base isn't as steep as a true hip hop fan. Of course, I also branch out to other genres like reggae, pop, R&B, etc. Love going to concerts and shows. Fell in love with classical music in Nice. Chopin and Franck are my jam.

Old favorites: probably For Whom the Bell Tolls and A Farewell to Arms by Hemingway, The Motorcycle Diaries by Che, and The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. Currently more keen on poetry than prose. "Black Zodiac" by Charles Wright will blow your mind. Prufrock and Other Observations by TS Eliot is essential.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I think one of the most "Wow! Is this really happening?" sort of moments I've had was touching hieroglyphics for the first time in Egypt. Just knowing how incredibly ancient what I was touching was was truly amazing to me.

When I went to Peru as a pretty young kid, I think one of the most meaningful moments I had was staying with a very poor Peruvian family for a night. They seemed so much happier than most of the people I knew in the States, and it made me realize how unnecessary most of the junk in our lives is.

Small classical music concert in Nice - absolutely blew me away.

Staring over the Mediterranean while hiking around my first day in Levanto. That had to be one of the highlights of my life.

Watching a moon set in Dana Nature Reserve in Jordan. Like a reverse sunrise sucking all the light out of the sky then boom! stars as far as the eye can see.

Hot air balloon ride at sunrise in Cappadocia, Turkey. Completely bizarre and amazing.

Watching sunrise over Oman's Grand Canyon in Jebel a-Shems. Indescribable.

Teach, Learn, Share

Always enjoy exchanging language practice/knowledge with people. I would also love to learn how to cook local dishes when visiting a new place.

Countries I’ve Visited

Egypt, France, India, Israel, Italy, Oman, Palestine, Peru, Turkey, United Arab Emirates

Countries I’ve Lived In

Jordan, Lebanon, United States
