About Me

I'm Sam.. 28 years old from the UK.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I first came across Couchsurfing back in 2016, during my very first solo trip around Thailand. I was 20, fresh faced, and honestly pretty nervous about stepping so far outside my comfort zone for the first time. A friend of mine who I met on the trip kindly let me stay at her place while I found my feet, and she was the one who introduced me to the Couchsurfing app.

That experience opened a door I didn’t even know existed...meeting people through a similar outlook and connection. Since then, Couchsurfing has led me to some unforgettable moments and friendships. I’ve met some truly unique characters...some hilarious, some thoughtful, and a few who’ve left me with stories I’ll be telling for years to come. It’s changed the way I see the world, especially when it comes to locals..not just as part of the background of a place, but as real people with their own lives, stories, and perspectives.

Interests

When I’m not geeking out over anything historical or working/seeing new stuff, I’m likely always finding a chance to play cricket or watching it.

Ever since I was a kid, I’ve had an insatiable curiosity to see more of the world whether through books, documentaries, or travel. I’ve always been drawn to history.

I’m also really into cooking. I got properly into it during the pandemic and ended up learning a lot..especially European recipes.

Music, Movies, and Books

I have a soft spot for the 90s and 2000s.

I like biographies...currently I’m deep into "From Peking to Mandalay" by Sir Reginald Johnston, which is fascinating. In the past, I’ve enjoyed books like Angela’s Ashes and The Railway Man, both of which really stuck with me.

The Pacific and Band of Brothers are also good classics.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I did a lot of cooking over the pandemic and would always be happy to show off some of my skills.

If English isn't native to you and you would like to learn... I’m well-equipped to offer tips, study strategies, and special techniques to help improve your English...especially regarding IELTS preparation. Whether you're looking for help with writing, speaking, or general exam preparation.
