About Me

Hey there, if you're reading this, then thanks, for taking the time to get to know me better. I'm Sam, currently 22 years of age as of 2016, 5 foot 8 inches of pure Singaporean. Right now I'm based in China, Hangzhou, for 3 months for an exchange programme with my university.

I'm an aspiring aerospace engineer. I love tinkering with machines and other stuff. I've also done a few other science projects on my own. Right now I'm trying to kickstart working homemade nuclear reactors with the funding from the school. I used to want to be an architect - I enjoy urban designs, landscaping, interior aesthetics as much as I enjoy bathing in the sights of the world. I love art, I do a lot of it! I am vegetarian, yes. Because I love animals. I am also a tree hugger. I served two years in the Singapore Armed Forces, and completed my tenure on December 2014, as a full Lieutenant - BSO and PC of 5th Battalion Singapore Infantry. The army's made a big influence on me, and probably everyone else who's been through it - and it's served only to intensify my desire for adventure. I run trails, marathons, and I rock climb occasionally too (hit me up for either anytime).

In personality, I get pretty adventurous and open to ideas. I love trying new ideas, new concepts, doing new kinds of work. In fact I've got my hands down to all kinds of clean and dirty work before - a high school physics and chemistry teacher, a nano-tech research intern, a toy salesman, hell I even worked as a wet market fishmonger. My last part time job was as a weapons instructor at a firing range to cover my university expenses (since I'm still a full-time student). I'm still pretty grounded in my principles and beliefs although I'm usually open to new ideas.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My philosophy is simple. Life is all about one huge adventure with a ton of experiences - you're never too old or too young to experience life to the fullest! There are great memories to be made and history to be written, but I would love nothing more than to share these memories and moments with people who are part of this huge adventure too. Couchsurfing sounds like an awesome place to do just that - because the greatest takeaways one could really ask for are the new friends that one would make in his journey both at home and abroad.

Interests

I have a deep profound love for engineering, tinkering, sci-fi, art, and photography. Pencil sketches are my forté and my Canon PowerShot G16 captures the greatest moments for me. For musical instruments, I enjoy plucking and strumming on the guitar. I love running - be it trails or urban terrain, and like I said, I climb once in awhile too so hit me up if you want to.

Music, Movies, and Books

Deep house, saxophone house beats, and a little bit of electronic. Not a country music person. Definitely not a Metallica, Slayer or Dethklok fan... Lord of the Rings is awesome. Superbad is the best movie ever. Right McLovin?

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Let's not limit this section to just 'One' amazing thing.

Teach, Learn, Share

We'll see what we can learn from each other. Plenty, as I always assume.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Stories. There can never be too many great stories to tell. I guess I'm a pretty decent teacher too. I could help out with homework - I taught physics and chemistry before. Math too. My essays weren't too bad as well. I can cook for you too (if you're ever hosting me) if you want. I'm alright with Asian dishes (rice, noodle stir fries) and Vegetarian food (beans, veggies, potato dishes). Also, PEANUT BUTTER. Lots... and lots... of peanut butter.
