About Me

Having been lucky enough to visit a few countries alongside my parents at a young age, I have always enjoyed travelling both locally and abroad to experience the sights and cultures of new towns, cities and countryside locations. As an adult, I find myself saving almost exclusively for that next adventure and joyfully planning what I will do when I arrive at my destination.

In the last few years I have been fortunate enough to meet my wife, Laura, who shares this same passion for travelling and for the last couple of years particularly, we have spent much of time enjoying a period of prolonged travel that has taken us to some fantastic locations across Africa, Asia and now Australia where we currently reside.

Outside of my love for travelling, I enjoy many sports and have especially found myself practising swing dancing alongside Laura and many other dancing enthusiasts around the world. We've been practising for a few years now and have found it an incredibly rewarding and social activity. Social events in this respect take place in many towns and cities all over the globe, and we've met so many great people by partaking in them.

My main sporting love before dancing was football, or soccer, as it's called in many countries. I enjoy playing where possible and support my local team of Leicester City. They have been a brilliant team to support whilst travelling over the last few years, due to their huge success in winning the premier league and the resulting international fame. Every football loving country I visit now has people who exclaim at my support of the team and enjoy asking about the story which surrounded there success. A story I obviously love to recount!

My wife and I also absolutely enjoy keeping up to date on current affairs, particularly the politics in our own country, but also in general where interesting discussions can arise.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Having spent the last couple of years exploring many countries, I've come across quite a number of people who recommended the couch surfing experience to me. My wife and I are about to hit the road again after working in Australia for a while, and so I thought why not set-up a profile to give it a go at some point along the way.

The next part of our trip will take us down the east coast of Australia and further to New Zealand, where we plan to spend a number of months hiking through the country. This second part of the trip also made me curious about the website, as many "trail angels" on other sites, have said they host hikers through here.

When I return home, I will hopefully be living somewhere with a spare room once again, and at that point, I imagine my wife and I might also like to host some guests.

Music, Movies, and Books

In a world where a cheap, easily accessible program like spotify exists, I regularly listen to and enjoy music from many different genres. Its great to get lost in many different peoples playlists and see where they take you.

Another audible hobby of mine and one which is certainly great for travelling, is to listen to podcasts. I dive into a great many each week and love to learn about all sorts from sport, politics, popular science. The medium is great for making you feel like your in a room with some great, influential people whilst they discuss stories and ideas.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

To detail one amazing thing I've done, whilst drawing on recent memory, I'd definitely say planning and taking part in a self-drive journey across Namibia and Botswana ranks quite highly in my life's most exciting experiences.

Coming from the UK, the new experiences involving wildlife, landscapes and people which he had rarely or never encountered before were fantastic. In addition to this, it was quite exhilarating at times, to rely solely on our own abilities to navigate a country so vastly different from our own, including landscapes which could clearly be quite unforgiving to find yourself stuck in.

We took around a month to drive ourselves through these absolutely incredible countries, and we experienced a travelling freedom which felt like it'd be hard to match in many other places around the world. We definitely plan to return to the continent in the near future, to seek more of its many countries adventuring potential.

What I Can Share with Hosts

As detailed previously, my wife and I are very much in love with swing dancing and having practised for a few years, are fairly competent dancers. I'm sure that we would be very happy to pass on the dancing bug where hosts were keen to try it out. Swing dancers are a fantastic crowd to form a connection with, even when travelling from place to place, as social events occur in many different towns and cities. A great way to keep fit, whilst making friends all over the world.

As native English speakers, we would certainly be happy to converse with any hosts who are trying to learn or reinforce their foreign language skills. I don't imagine this might be case quite as much in Australia and New Zealand, although you never know who might be hosting!
