About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Sustainable & Healthy Communal Living

ABOUT ME

The Sanctuary Urban Axis is an intentional community in the neighborhood of Wedgwood: north of the U-District. We are into self development and mystical research. We strive to be active in our communities, both locally and far away, and we serve as an urban hub for several rural sister communities. The house is an old Victorian inspired farmhouse, now perched above a bustling neighborhood. It has hardwood floors, colorful interiors, two kitchens, and two bathrooms.

As a house we interact with mutual respect, understanding, and cajolary. At our meetings we practice consensus-based decision making, and our house government is inspired by the Iroquois Constitution. The main rooms of the house are intentionalized, maintained, accessorized and artified for moving, cooking, hosting events, and etc. Several members of the house are planning to put in Fukuoka/Iroquois-inspired no-till garden beds. All members of the house have skills or resources that we contribute to maintaining, feeding, and developing the house and community. We have periodic poetry and movie nights, and a weekly potluck gathering. We also have occasional events, and are currently planning a skills-share. However, most days out of the week the house is fairly quiet and laid back.

All members of the house are spiritually active in a wide range of traditions, though we are generally non-traditional in our practices, and are LGBT friendly. Some of us are students, gardeners, permaculturalists, caterers, teachers, and techies. We have members ranging in ages from early 20s to mid thirties. We are all highly creative, the house has multiple writers, poets, musicians, painters, designers, and tinkerers.
