ABOUT ME

I've been living in Japan since 2006, teaching English in Sano. I'm taking a break to travel and meet people before I go home to do a PhD in artificial intelligence. If you look at my interests you might gather that I'm a bit of a geek - but don't worry, I'm very approachable!

I am in the world's only Viking Metal band.

PHILOSOPHY

It's difficult to describe. I've been travelling so much recently that I have really got the feeling that all the people I've met in the past few years have helped turn me into a totally different person to who I used to be. And it's a great thing. So I want to keep on meeting interesting people and learning how to be a more interesting person myself.

So far, I haven't done much participating. I'll try my hardest though, I promise!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Not much yet as such, but I've always enjoyed going to youth hostels on my own and going out with the new people I meet there. I'm hoping I can can host people and have a similar experience from home!

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

The fact that nothing springs immediately to mind makes me realise that I should be trying harder. I once helped film a documentary about Japanese nerds in Tokyo. Maybe the best thing I've done has been cycling around Shikoku on my own for a week. I had lots of crazy adventures!

I can teach you how to play the guitar or trumpet, how to use Linux or fix a computer, how to play viking metal, how to organise a band, how to have a cheap night out in Japan, how to cook Japanese curry.

I am very willing to learn how to speak any language or cook anything!
