About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Build good karma by hosting internationals. Spreading gratitude for my beautiful home. Trading stories and stimulating my imagination. Formulating my next international adventure.

ABOUT ME

I am an open-minded extrovert seeking to experience and absorb the wide world with wonder and gratitude. I love learning new things and experiencing new kinds of people with different outlooks on the world and believe that I have something to learn from everyone. I am a bit of an intellectual at times which I try to keep balanced with a good sense of humor and a quick wit. A big foodie, I love finding new places and ways to dine as well as cook. While traveling I love to immerse myself in the local culture, take advantage of spontaneous and serendipitous opportunities, listen to local music, try local food and drink, as well as sight see and doing anything I can to soak in the culture. At home, I'm a lover of the beach and a true advocate of the down to earth mentality that makes North County San Diego so wonderful!

PHILOSOPHY

Raised as an Episcopalian (Protestant Christian), but more recently have been tuning into the trend toward positive collective energy that is burgeoning as we enter into the end of an age. I believe that the universe exists in devine balance and that in being mindful, grateful, and savoring our experiences, we honor each other, ourselves, and the cosmos as a whole. If you need a more definitive label... I guess that you could call me a pluralist.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I love showing off my city to people because it helps me to remain actively conscious and full of gratitude for the wonderful place that I live in. I also believe that the best things in life are accessed through networking and diversifying our social experiences. I am trusting and a gracious host by nature, and hope to find like minded individuals who are equally interested in hosting and being hosted.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
New to this site after exploring it before a solo trip to Europe that I took in 2012. Although I gathered information, I didn't take advantage of any "couches" because I was too cautious. Now, being on the side where I am the one to host, I hope to be a refuge for other solo women (or men) who want to meet new people, but are cautious about meeting them through this site.

Interests

A bit of a foodie so finding farmer's markets, dining, cooking and drinking wine with friends, going to the beach, hiking, kayaking, learning to surf (when the water is warmer!), live theater, watching soccer, yoga, live music and concerts, craft beer, and… oh I don't know… probably a lot of others things.

Music, Movies, and Books

Big Fish, V for Vendetta, Ray Bradbury, Radiohead, Ratatat, Modest Mouse, Sublime, Yann Tiersen, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ingrid Michaelson, Anthony Bourdain, Sara Barellies, and many many more... my tastes are kaliedescopic in nature. One minute I will be listening to Vivaldi, the next Bob Marley.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

...The day has been long and I'm worn out. But instead of going straight home, I park the car and walk the 3 blocks up to the stairs leading down to the beach. The sky is turning shades of orange, pink, red, purple, and blue as surfers take turns riding the waves from one end to the other. I can smell the salt air and the wind swishes through the palm trees above my head. I slip off my rainbow sandals and start down the stairs. Coming up on my left, surfers jog up the stairs with boards in hand as I descend on the right, feeling the well worn wood beneath my toes. Now I reach the lookout and can see all the way South to La Jolla, and North to the Oceanside Pier. I continue down the stairs until my feet touch the sand. It is warm as the grains slip between my toes and warm the top of my feet. There is slightly cool breeze that has picked up as the sun sinks low on the horizon and as I walk, I see couples, runners, and wanderers like myself. I settle on a rock and watch as the pelicans sweep low within the crest of the wave as the sun draws close to the horizon. I watch and smile, basking in gratitude and mindfulness. THIS is where I live. Even if the day has been long and there are things I must get back to attend to, in this moment, I am free. I am at peace. As the sun is just about to disappear below the horizon, the surfers stop and sit on their boards, collectively appreciating... all of us together, honoring the end of another beautiful day in Encinitas.
