ABOUT ME

I moved to Jakarta in 2011 and decided to stay after my year contract finished up. I have discovered that I love teaching/learning from children, I am going to combine that with my travel urge to see more of the world.

I grew up in South Africa, previously in a very very small town in (almost) the desert, but mostly and most recently I call Stellenbosch home. I studied politics, I liked studying. I liked my environment. I knew, though, I couldn't stay and settle , so now I live in Indonesia, and my global network of friends and my perspective has grown.

My imagination has always been overactive, I am almost always listening to music despite not being 'musical' at all, I miss coffee shops and my dogs, I laugh a lot, and if I had an oven I would be baking.

PHILOSOPHY

Laugh whenever your body wants to.

Appreciating and being grateful for what I have when I have it. I want to stop using the words 'try', 'just' and 'should'.

兴趣

I don't have 'hobbies' per say, but I am working on yoga and have recently taken up running [only 5k races so far].
I sometimes feel uneasy if I don't have a book to read and I am also learning Bahasa...slowly.

Books: Catch 22, Fountainhead, East of Eden [all of Steinbeck really], various short stories colections, The Confederacy of Dunces, A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius - those are some the big ones, busy with Sherlock Holmes right now.

I read from recommendation and whatever is on the bookshelves where I live

Music - Not including the pop I listen to at the gym: Bon Iver, Ben Howard, Rodriguez, The National, The Lonely H, Fun., The Killers, Ed Sheeran a lot of SA bands, Snow Patrol, Of Monsters and Men, Vampire Weekend. So much more, but these are on the playlist now...

Movies - DVDs and the cinema are so cheap here, I watch almost anything.
