One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Once a random guy gave me a pair of new shoes. I didn't know this guy at all... he came up to me out of the blue and told me he'd seen me around, helping other people out, and he didn't think I deserved to be wearing holey shoes. He held out a brand new pair of sneakers. I couldn't take them from him, but the utterly unwarranted kindness was breathtaking.
Once I biked from Montreal to the Outer Banks, North Carolina, carrying only what I could fit in a milk crate on the back of Ferdinand, my mountain bike. I had $100 and one month off and it was an absolutely fantastic time. I camped all the way down the barrier islands of the eastern US, sleeping in my hammock, cooking on my beer-can stove, biking a century a day, and having an utterly jolly beach vacation. Best vacation I've ever had.
