About Me

Let's keep this brief :) we both have awesome stuff to do.

Right now I am wandering, going wherever the wind takes me. I just left my job of 2 years, working with a great group in D.C. that helped people experiencing homelessness. Now I'm on to the rest of my life, one step at a time of course.

Things I love (a non-inclusive list):

- Being alive
- Honesty and people who are willing to have difficult conversations
- Experiencing something new
- Being silly
- Being weird
- Being silly and/ or weird with other people
- People who embrace their uniqueness and don't judge others
- People in general (we are pretty interesting creatures)
- Being challenged
- Big questions
- Learning
- Listening
- Finding ways to communicate with people who I disagree with or who disagree with me, finding common ground
- Art (especially in public spaces)
- Helping other people (if they want it)
- Sharing
- Stretching my consciousness
- The world

I believe you can learn just as much from the silence as you can from the noise. I believe in being kind and not taking myself too seriously.

Favorite all time quote, Carl Sagan: "The cosmos is within us. We are made of star-stuff. We are a way for the universe to know itself."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

The obvious: To meet awesome people, to do new things, travel to new places.

The more popular something becomes, the more it inevitably becomes susceptible to people wanting to take advantage of it. I'm here for the good principles of this community and I despise transactional encounters. People can tell when you don't mean it. I want to meet people I wouldn't otherwise meet and share my time and attention with them. We have one life to live, and I don't intend to waste my or your time. I want to co-create some awesomeness.

Interests

Music is my true love. I can't imagine what life would be without it. When people tell me they don't like music, I don't understand.

I also love to dance. Dancing can be fun (if you're not having fun you might be doing it wrong), it can be spiritual, it can be bizarre. For me, dancing is translating, it's music's inevitable pull on me. One of my favorite quotes is from the dancer Isadora Duncan, "If I could tell you what it meant, there would be no point in dancing it". Currently dancing to James Brown.

I love philosophy, psychology, history, alternative histories, conversations that dig deep, peace and conflict studies, math, the stars, the universe, thinking for lengths of time on our interconnection to everything and how unbelievably beautiful that is, observing how people interact and waxing poetic about the potential of collaboration on the large-scale, global justice, people powered movements, the earth, and talking and connecting with diverse types of people. I never want to live in a bubble where I pretend only one reality exists; one of my main goals in life is to escape the echo chamber, do as much as I can to put my ego in check, and do my best to listen to what others have to say.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite all time band is Led Zeppelin. But best all time song is Jimi Hendrix, 'Voodoo Child'. My heart is with rock, punk, and blues but I love a wide array of music. However, I won't say I love ALL music. Some music is sh*t. There's way too many amazing artists for me to list here, so just ask me if you want to know more - or better yet, we can trade a few playlists.

Movies and Books: I love documentaries, nonfiction, and dystopian themes. Three of my favorite movies are Matilda (1996), Princess Bride (1987), and Almost Famous (2000). My favorite show right now is probably Planet Earth, I'm just starting to get into Mr. Robot. I used to be obsessed with The Office, and a portion of my brain is still devoted to having basically every line memorized.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One amazing thing I've done ... In 2013, I was in a terrible spot in my life. I met an incredible person, Brad Wydra, who helped me to see what was possible. Long story short, I ended up selling what little personal possessions I had left at the time, buying a backpack, and getting a one-way ticket to Europe. I had never even left the east coast of the U.S. and here I was getting on a plane, by myself, only a few days after conceiving of the idea. The trajectory of my life was forever changed, thanks to this one incredible person. I've found true happiness and I could never repay the gift that he gave me.

Teach, Learn, Share

If it's scary, it's probably worth doing. When it comes to fear the bark is usually worse than the bite. Go for it. Adjust course later.

I would love to learn how to drive a motorcycle, to surf, a new language - really I'm up for learning anything.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Whatever I can! I do love to cook so at the VERY LEAST I can make you a dinner that says "thank you!!!" Also, I'm a big believer in respect. I take being invited into someone's home very seriously so if I'm there you can count on me to be appreciating the crap out of it - cleaning up after myself, being considerate of whatever your schedule is, helping out around the house, etc. I'm an independent soul - equally comfortable being on my own or hanging out together, whatever you have time for.

And even if you can't host me but think we would get along, send me a message!
