About Me

I'm a 22 year old student working on a PhD in physics. I try to make quick friends all the time, and love getting into discussions, even though (especially if?) they devolve into pedantic arguments about something stupid :P
I love reading, swimming, cooking, collecting obscure trivia and listening to all sorts of music. I also love dancing, though I've heard that some people think I'm a fish gasping for air as when they see me flail around to music, but I certainly don't give a damn :P

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I like meeting new people, learning about new places, cultures, or even just learning more about that random Wikipedia page you happened to be reading earlier. I'm here just to get a chance to explore around and learn new things, one couch at a time!

Interests

I love all sorts of science. While my work is primarily to do with physics, I would just as easily love talking about any other aspect of science, right from psychology, to number theory.

I enjoy listening to a fairly wide range of music, including indie-pop, classic rock, country, blues, jazz, western classical music, Indian classical music, bollywood music, crooning, soul music, and a lot more. I'm not a great fan of heavy metal or rap, but would love to listen to your favourite tracks to maybe find something that I like.

I've done a fair bit of amateur astronomy, and have spend way more time than I'm willing to admit doing nothing but just staring up at a clear night sky with a telescope or a pair of binoculars.

I like reading all sorts of books, though I heavily lean towards non-fiction, which quite often ends up being something related to science.

I really like picking up all sorts of obscure pieces of trivia, even though more often than not I won't know what seems obvious to almost everyone else.

I also love swimming and used to play water-polo for my college in my undergrad in India.

Music, Movies, and Books

Favourite music -- hard to pin down. Favourite genres would probably be indie, country and crooning. Depending on my mood I also listen to a lot of classical music, classic rock, and old bollywood music.

Favourite movies -- Stupid comedies like the Rush Hour series. Serious movies like Life is Beautiful, or The Prestige. Action movies like the Indiana Jones movies, or almost any superhero movie. Bollywood movies such as Barfi!, Jab We Met, Queen or Dil Chahta hai. Movies that screw with your mind like Predestination or Primer. Or Mulholland Drive --- What the hell happened in that film?!
Basically any good film. Can't really think of a genre of films that I wouldn't want to watch.

Favourite books -- Probably Gödel Escher Bach. Or Surely You're Joking Mr. Feynman. Also a fan of Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Won medals for India at multiple International competitions.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I could teach you how to cook all sorts of Indian foods and share my experiences of living in India. I can teach you some amateur astronomy, and if the skies are clear I can definitely show you the constellations in the night sky, maybe show you your zodiac sign in the sky and tell you about the mythology of the characters in the stars!
I could probably also teach you some Hindi if you're interested in learning new languages, and could also maybe share some cool math puzzles :P
